[Boss]

[Rules: Four member slots available. You cannot be participating in another plot thread. I will be posting at least every 48 hours. The grounds for ejection from the thread are being skipped three times total. This isn't to be mean, but to ensure thread completion and to maybe get someone else involved who can be more active.

Style: Technical/LS. If you don't have LS-style damage-listings in your posts, damage will be calculated by me, automatically and fairly. Just take a quick look at the Battle Rules topic to get the basics down.]

All was peaceful in the swamp. Crickets chirped, birds squawked and somewhere in the mist a frog croaked before jumping into the water with the smallest of plops. It was as nice and calm as a swamp could get. Of course the place still wore the mist one typically attributes to a swamp, and smelled of all sorts of death, but it was fresh death. Natural death. Rotting plants returning their nutrients to the world so that more plants may grow forth.

A black streak flew across the sky and splashed into the water. All life in the area quickly ran away from the suddenness of the collision. There was a strange aura around the impact zone, as if all light was being sucked out of the air into whatever it was that had splashed. Light, darkness, life and death all mixed together under that water. Bubbles rose to the surface and then it all stopped.

Peace slowly returned to the swamp. Crickets gingerly began to chirp, testing the air to see if they were allowed to resume before once more falling into the symphony of the swamp. Feathers fluttered and the birds returned, sitting on their branches and joining the crickets. But that one lonely frog was too curious. Instead of returning to its spot on an old stump it swam toward the spot where the air was dead and the water was still.

As it swam closer the presence of death was noticeable. No, not death. It was something else. The frog knew this feeling, but it couldn’t recognize it. There was a stench to it. It was the stench of the swamp, amplified by whatever magic had fallen into the swamp. The frog swam forward and began to feel that magic. Its skin began to sag, began to decay. But the frog was compelled forward into the darkness.

By the time the frog reached the impact zone it was no longer alive. The skin had rotted off of it completely, its own momentum and the current of the water carrying it forward. Into the center of the darkness, into the center of death. But it didn’t make it all the way. Before its corpse finished its sojourn a black tentacle, or rather a claw so slender one would assume it was a tentacle, shot out of the water, collected the corpse, and disappeared into the depths.

Several more claws shot out of the water, stretching throughout the swamp. They gathered up whatever life they could find, the skin on those animals almost immediately rotting away, then the corpse was dragged into the water. A loud metallic shriek, like metal against metal, echoed throughout the swamp and beyond. Water that now frothed until the final tentacle returned and the swamp was still. Still, but not peaceful.

The swamp would never be peaceful again.

[MIFF]

"I don't care if you want to tame it," Miff said rather stubbornly as he walked with pride and purpose, each step of his tiny feet hitting the ground with great thunderous booms(In his mind). "If we find a giant Faron Frog then I'm going to beat it up before you can!"

The Mad Scrub huffed angrily, ruffling his head of orange leaves. This guy following him wasn't so great. No matter how cool the guy thought he was Miff was the coolest thing in Hyrule. No doubt about that! No big amphibian was going to escape his nuts!

The Mad Scrub stopped mid-stride and froze for a minute. He'd spent the majority of his life in Faron Woods and something seemed a little off all of a sudden. He'd never heard that kind of faint, echoing screech before in his life. Putting both feet back on the ground the Deku turned right and dashed suddenly off to the side, leaving his tag-along behind without a word. After darting through a many groves and trees he came within sight of a certain swap, the source of the foreign sound.

"Do giant frogs live in swamps like this? he wondered aloud. It was kind of exciting to think that his newest target had already been found. The Deku could hardly wait for songs to be written about how he impressively brought the creature to its knees, begging for mercy.

[Zafun Strider]

"Eh... But Miff." Zafun smiled, playing diplomatic to the Deku Scrub's tyrannical worldview. This guy was tough, no doubt about it, and Zafun could use the help travelling north, even if he did have to put up with a little ego. "I hear the giant frog's kind of weak. Wouldn't it be better to subjugate and turn it into a loyal slave than to sully your reputation fighting such a-" Zafun glanced around.

Miff was just darting off when when Zafun glimpsed him, and felt the presence around them. Crashing through foliage, Zafun raced after the little guy. Whatever that presence was, he didn't like it, and then suddenly they were at the edge of the swamp. It smelled like rotting nature. "Only the toughest ones." His lips curled oddly. If monsters lay beyond, it would be the perfect chance for Zafun to see Miff in action.

[Mara]

Mara cursed as her boots smushed through the swamp, covered in slime and full of water and goo. Ugh. Could she get any more uncomfortable? What the hell was she doing in here, investigating a beam of darkness that came this way? She could've easily just ignored it, but nooo. She had to check it out because of potential treasure. Merik had his head up his bloody ass with this nonsense of gold. It was worthless in the long run. Strength of character and knowledge mattered more.

So her mind strengthened with the idea of learning exactly what it was, she pushed forward. And then saw two guys rush right past her. What in the world? She rushed after them to find out, her curiosity overtaking. And taking her to the edge of the swamp.

She walked up to them. "Got any idea what that beam of darkness was, mate?"

[Fierce Demon]

"Hmph, silly frog." murmured Zect as he sat on one of the swamps thick branches overlooking what had happened to the curious frog. He made a mental note to not get any of that swamp water on him. Then again, the reason why he was in a tree was so he could avoid the mucky swamp ground as much as possible. Jumping from tree to tree was a hassle but they were close enough for him to get through.

As he continued onwards he came upon a small group of wanderers who were near the edge of the swamp. They must have heard the crash from the black streak and came over to check it out. Zect wondered why people would go out of there way to go towards an area where something bad just happened. The possibility that it could happen once more when they got there must have ran past them. He just happened to have been there at the time of the crash so he saw what went down. No reason to stick around now right?

Zect called over to the group, "I'm not quite sure why you are in a swamp here to begin with, but that doesn't matter right now. It would be wise of you all to leave this swamp while you still can."

[Boss]

No natural life returned to the swamp. Adventurers made their way through for their own reason. A deku with delusions of grandeur, a zora musician, a treasure hunting gerudo and one observant hylian all came together at the edge of the swamp. Most of them had some idea something was wrong, though they had no idea how wrong that something was. The swamp remained remarkably silent and still as the four of them were gathered together, with nary a Faron Frog in sight.

Then the dark claws sprang forth from the water again. Before any of the adventurers could react they were thrown to and fro, scattered about the swamp as the claws grabbed them by their legs, pulled them off the ground and gave them a fling. This time, however, the tentacles did not retract, but rather the water at their base frothed and a great monstrosity rose out of the swamp, seemingly made of darkness and death itself. It was impossible to discern what was what on the thing; it had legs, a tail, and a body, with claws sprouting from practically everywhere. A giant gnashing mouth lined with teeth let out a piercing metallic shriek.

DEATH’S PET: TIDDLY WINK

The claws lashed about wildly, tearing trees from their roots, which then rotted away and crumbed away lifeless. Within seconds, before the adventurers could even collect themselves, the entire swamp was levelled, leaving the monstrosity alone between the four of them. It turned its attention to the only one among the adventurers who was made of wood. It let out a shriek and began to charge straight at Miff.

Miff bounced across the water a bit before finally righting himself and shaking his head. By the time the Mad Scrub had gotten its bearings every living thing in the swamp but him, the three weaklings and this joker who thought it was tough enough to tangle with him was dead and dissolved. Miff didn't care though. He simply bounced slightly on the surface of the water, never actually entering it, as he watched the thing that dared to strike him turn to target the mightiest monster in Hyrule yet again.

"It's pretty ugly for a frog, music man!" Miff said defiantly as that Tiddly Wink charged in. Big things never learned. They all thought they were tougher than he was. This "frog" was already a step up from Onox though: It wasn't running away from him. It might try to once it felt the Deku's power head-on, though, so just to be safe Miff opened with his trusty Deku Bubble at the thing's charging face. Let's see it try to run once it's moving at half speed, he thought. Regardless of how that worked out though the creature was clearly within stirking range of him now.

"Come on, just try it!"

The Tiddly Wink had charged right into close range of Miff. It's reach was significantly longer than the Mad Scrub's though, especially since the smaller of the two didn't have any arms anyway. This didn't deter the orange-leafed scrapper, though. He was happy to oblige any foolishness on the monster's part if it thought being close to this Mad Scrub was a good idea.

What did deter him was the fact that the thing was blocking everyone's view of him! How could Zafun write amazing songs and those other two losers tell tales of his grandeur if they didn't get a good look at him!? With this in mind Miff manoeuvred out of range of the Tiddly Wink across the water, not backing up directly from it but at an angle off to its left so that the Zora would have a better view of the Deku as he kept facing the "frog" itself.

The Mad Scrub wouldn't risk his greatest moments of triumph being missed by the no doubt captivated audience that had gathered.

[Ryst informs me that the Zora Electric ability can be used at full strength?]

The world bobbed up-...And then down again as Zafun was picked up by a claw and tossed out of range of the beast. His orientation took a moment to adjust. He stood, and shook the dizziness off. This thing could really sneak up on you, couldn't it? Tricky beast like that... He'd have to write a song about it.

Later. He could do that later.

"They say the oldest frog in the swamp lives the longest, because its the strongest." Zafun taunted back to Miff as he adjusted his stance. If the thing attacked like that again, he would be ready, and just maybe he'd be able to better protect himself. "Judging by how skinny and wrinkly this one is, I'd say you just found the strongest frog who ever lived."

Zafun pulled his hands together and a powerful bolt of electricity began charging. Letting out a low breath the Rock Cowboy focused intently on the powerful electricity flowing into his hands and molding it into a potent charge, and then his eyes lifted beyond his fingers and zeroed in on the baddy they were facing down. "Let's start with a bang, shall we?"

Maria shrieked as she was flung across the clearing. She recovered quickly, facing the monster with her wand in hand. What kind of creature was this?! And what kind of idiot was that Deku, trying his best to attract all the attention?!

She casted her thunder spell, flinging it over the monster's head and raining it down on him. Hopefully that would do some damage. They were so lucky she was here, they wouldn't be able to heal up quickly otherwise.

After being flung from his sweet hiding spot in the trees and into the ground, Zect lay there staring up at the sky somewhat irritated. He had now gotten himself into a fight against a giant tentacle monster. He looked over to see where if anyone was still alive. To his surprise they were up and now all attacking the monster at once. Did they just forget that they had been flung around so easily by its tentacles?

Perhaps it was the hit on the head that did it, or the fact that he didn't want to look like the only one there that ran away, but for some reason Zect got back up and took out one of his grenadoes. He was out of range from the monster but he had a good enough throwing arm to launch the grenadoe towards the monster so that it would be in range. But before he did this Zect took out another item.

Holding one of his masks he stared at it nervously. He may lose himself for a bit with it on. The darkness within the mask would almost completely take over him if he wasn't careful. There wasn't any time to waste now and so he put on the mask. He let out a painful scream as the darkness engulfed him and surrounded him in an all black armor.

From out of the helmets mouthpiece, a stream of steam released sounding like artificial breathing sounds. He looked over at the direction Tiddly Wink was at. It had just been attacked by the others and now it was his turn. With the grenadoe in his hand, he lit the string attached to it and threw it as far as he could in the direction the monster was currently at. He then grabbed his cutlass trying his best to restrain himself.

Tiddly Wink charged at Miff, and Miff moved out of the way. The charge came up short and Tiddly Wink whirled around, shrieking as its prey moved just out of its reach. The Deku Bubble splashed in its eye, which just seemed to make it even angrier. Another one of those metal on metal shrieks echoed across the swamp as Zafun’s electric attack shot across the swamp and slammed into the beast’s side. The electricity arced throughout its body before dwindling off as Tiddly Wink fell down for a moment.

More electricity rained down on it then as Mara’s Thunder attack shot through it. Tiddly Wink rose and roared at the party just as a grenade blew up at its feet. The explosion caused it to lose its footing and step back, but it was still standing. Finally, the attacks having done a fair chunk of damage to it, Tiddly Wink found its footing and looked about, eyes, wherever they be, focusing on Zafun. It shrieked and charged across the swamp at the Rock Cowboy.

As it charged the tentacles whipped about yet again, lashing at everyone in the area, the claws racking across their bodies wickedly, though Zect's armor saved him from feeling the effects. Both Zafun and Mara felt a creeping poison run through their body that slowed them down noticeably.

Miff was kind of ticked off now. No, wait, he was always ticked off anyways. He was just especially ticked off right now for two reasons: One, because he was really starting to get sick of things picking fights then running away immediately. Good thing his bubble made sure its movements were only half as fast as it tried to run away. Two, because the beast got beaten on by everyone else before he could even take his first shot!

"Hey, everyone back off! The frog is mine!" the Mad Scrub demanded with as much authority that could be mustered in his squeaky voice.

Not wanting anyone else to claim credit for his achievements Miff spat a Deku Nut at the Tiddly Wink's backside, intending to completely decimate the beast in one blow. Yes, one blow. None of the other guy's attacks counted, of course. Miff had called dibs. Miff had called eternal dibs way before now, so he always had dibs rights when it came to kicking whatever butts he so chose, including this "frog" and its wrinkly old butt.

Just to keep its body from moving around too much during the no doubt impending throes of death it would suffer at the power of Miff's shot another Deku Bubble was soon heading the Tiddly Wink's way as well.

Trying to attack the dark knight with it tentacles and ending up doing no damage to it was one thing. It's another thing when even though the attack felt like a gentle breeze, it angered Zect in his dark armored form. He looked at where Tiddly Wink had hit him hoping to see some mark of damage so as to justify his rage. Nothing was there obviously but the unexplainable rage was still there.

Zect let out a raging scream as he maneuvered over to where the monster was now slowly running towards the other man. The Deku Sprouts attack assisted Zect because now the monster was alot easier to hit. Along with the damage it would receive from the Deku Nut, Zect dealt an attack of his own by jumping into the air as high as he could and cutting at the monsters neck in an attempt to cut its head off.

Zect landed on the other side of the beast and quickly turned around. If that didn't kill it he would just have to get himself ready for the next attack.

Zafun stumbled back from the blows to his chest and legs that dealt light damage, falling to one knee. He grit his teeth, and pulled his guitar into his lap. This thing wanted to dance? Zafun could tango, and he thought of the perfect tune to accompany. His fingers swept across the strings of Great White, producing an inaudible sound at first, though as the Zora's hand crackled with natural electricity, a moment of tangible tension manifested. But the moment blinked away and everything within close range of Zafun experienced a blast of Zafun's own shrieking metal sound, that would push anything within close range back with force, while crackling lightning in the air would be attracted to any creature that had felt electric stings recently, paralyzing it, living or dead.

[Mara]

Mara definitely felt the effects of the tentacles, slapping her backward and backward until she was out of range of them. She was furious now, and the effects of the poison didn't seem to slow her on the outside, but she definitely felt it on the inside. She slapped her wand on her belt for the moment and drew her sword, moving as fast as a Gerudo should.

She ran, slower than she actually meant to, surprised. At this rate she wouldn't be able to attack fast enough. What was she thinking?

[Mara was out of range and only has one available action slot this turn, which means she cannot both maneuver and attack this turn. A Deku Bubble popped against the back of Tiddly Wink, followed shortly afterward by a single Deku Nut which bounced off, leaving a little imprint in the seemingly malleable flesh of the beast. Zect jumped straight into battle, his sword slashing through Tiddly Wink’s hide. The sword didn’t catch in anything, but cut through it cleanly. The hide had the consistency of algae, sticky and stringy, with many dark tendrils clinging to Zect’s sword as the slash was finished, only to get cut free.

Zafun’s attack shocked Tiddly Wink, though the paralysis didn’t stick as the beast’s make-up was much different than anything the party could have encountered thus far. Furthermore the attack should have done it, but suddenly dark tendrils rushed up out of the water into the monstrosity and it seemed to gain a second wave of life, though the slash from Zect’s sword was still quite visible. It shrieked and used what momentum it had left from its charge at the zora to lash out.

That mouth full of hundreds of teeth closed down around Zafun and picked him up off the ground, the teeth digging into him. Those clawed tentacles lashed out again as well, lashing at everyone except Zafun. This time they carried a bit more sting, even chewing through Zect’s armor a little. Tiddly Wink shook the zora in its mouth about and then spat him back out into the water, turning its attention around to Miff. Wherever its eyes were, the deku was in its sight.

In a swamp filled with water it was easy for Miff to use his natural Dekugility to avoid harm by hopping right off the surface of the swamp water and somersaulting over the Tiddly Wink's whipping slash. He could Water Walk with the best of them and wasn't going to let some stupid frog show him up just because this was its home or whatever.

"Finally ready to face a real battle, huh?" the Deku asked of his current target as it turned its attention to him. The Mad Scrub's eyes thinned dangerously. If Zafun's ability to write an epic song about him was hindered by this stupid old amphibian then there would be retribution! "Bring it on, punk."

Miff spat another Deku Bubble at the thing's face, just to show how unimpressed he was with its challenge.

Mara stopped to watch as the beast's wounds closed up with the dark tendrils that came up from the water. The water...

She tapped into her healing power and shot her magic straight at Zafun, curing some of his wounds. She didn't need anyone to die today.

Then she ran straight through the tentacles, feeling the sting but none the deterred. She swung her sword around in the direction of the tentacles, hoping to slice some of them off, and that they wouldn't grow back.

If they did, she had to find a way to get rid of them all. But first things first. If it couldn't touch the water, it probably couldn't regenerate.
