[Zafun Strider]

Zafun clenched his teeth to prevent a scream as the other tore into him, pressing back at it with all his might before he finally managed to slip away. This thing had been taking the full brunt of his attacks, with only the occasional flinch. Even the (improvised) coordinated attacks among the group had only spurred it to recover strength, not just keel over and die.

He had to get back on his feet and push the offensive, but not before he called out- "Could use some healing over here!" to which the gerudo promptly responded, taking some of the sting off, but that trample attack had really taken its toll.

Alright. I can handle this. He muttered, holding his guitar by the neck, and clutching his stomach as he made a rush out of the beast's range with what little endurance he could muster.

Finally Zect in his altered state of mind had felt some pain. It wasn't much but it was enough to further enhance his rage. Unlike most people who don't really think when their mind is clouded in anger, Zects mind was in fact a bit more sharper and allowed him to be more aware of situations, especially during combat.

This beast seemed really fixated on attacking the Deku Scrub. While it managed to attack the Zora musician, it seemed that it's main focus was on the one called Miff. What the reason for that was still up in the air, but at least for now Zect could use the Deku as a way to keep it distracted while the rest of them continued their attack.

Zect was then stricken with a thought. It was risky but if it worked then perhaps they would be able to finish it off without it being able to get revived. Zect pulled out his other grenadoe. After pulling the string a bit to add some time before detonation, he lit it and called out to Miff.

"Hey! You actually want to pack some punch with those spits? Try this instead!!"

He threw the grenadoe at Miff hoping the Deku Scrub would catch it and shoot it at the monster.

"Try to get it out of the swamp water now and onto a dry surface. Once you do that aim for it's mouth and shoot so it can swallow it!!"

This was a one shot idea but seeing as how this monsters poisonous attacks seemed to go hand-in-hand with the decaying swamp water, perhaps getting it out of that deadly water would stop its regeneration ability. The blast as well as the shrapnel inside the grenadoe would deal a high level of damage inside Tiddly Wink hopefully killing it in one go. And if he was right, the monster wouldn't be able to use the swamp water to revive it.

This was still just a long shot. But they couldn't keep using the same strategy over and over again. Zect made his way towards a more dryer surface and prepared to attack it after the grenadoe exploded.

[Sorry this post is late. Considering some people posted outside of the time limit we will call my unavailability an extension.]

Miff’s agility allowed him to escape from the attacks as planned, though it didn’t change the fact that Tiddly Wink was eyeing him and sizing up his next attack. The bubble popped in its face, if one could call it that, and though it didn’t seem to actually hurt Tiddly Wink it did annoy the beast and cause it to let out another one of those loud metal-on-metal shrieks (but then you’d be annoyed if a soap bubble popped in your eyes, too).

Mara’s sword cut into Tiddly Wink just like Zect’s had, cutting through the algae-like material that Tiddly Wink was apparently made out of. The beast let out yet another shriek as it felt the slash, but was focused on Miff for the target of its attack that it didn’t pay Mara or Zect any attention.

The healing healed Zafun some of his life, closing the wounds at the very least, but not long after it hit those tentacles did another round, cutting into everybody once more, and once more actually breaking through Zect’s armour. With a final shriek Tiddly Wink charged forward toward the bouncing deku, mouth agape and ready to take another bite out of the party.

[Sorry about not including my knockback effect in my ability summary. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.]

Zafun grimaced clutching his stomach in pain and weakness. This monster was simply too much to handle. There was no way they could beat it with normal means. He grit his teeth staring at the creature. Everyone was finished.

Unless someone did something bold.

"Hey, there's an idea. Here's another. Why don't you quit running your mouth, and get to swingin' that sword of yours." Zafun gripped Great White as one would normally grip an axe, and shouldered it, keeping his arm tight to his stomach, and his eye on the beast. Let's go.

Zafun shot forward like a bolt, diving into the water and swimming through the swamp as swiftly as if he were a natural dweller of the wetlands. His movement under the cover of the dark water was mostly obscured, allowing him to pop up right within arm's distance of the beast's chest.

The looming cavity before him stretched out like the monster's mouth only a few short feet above Zafun's head. The guitar swung, burying itself in that maw, and Zafun viciously clawed the strings, drawing electricity out from the guitar.

And in a synaptic instant that electricity was fired as a powerful wave straight into the underside of the beast's jaw, into his chest, and his legs.

Another tentacle swiped pathetically at Miff and once again the Deku evaded it with his natural ability to Water Walk[/color]. This time Miff moved to the side of the whip's path, spinning around in the air between hops and twirling his Propeller Leaves as he did so. The mightiest monster in Hyrule was performing in front of an audience, after all. He wanted it to look sufficiently awesome. He came to a rest atop a small bit of swamp land that poked up above the water's surface.

Tiddly Wink itself came baring down upon Miff next, which the Deku happily welcomed. This thing had it coming, being so ugly and all. Also because it refused to die when he spit that nut at it earlier. That was just unforgivable! While the creature moved through the water toward him, however, a voice came from the side. It was the jerk in the armour(Miff HATED guys in armour!) spouting some ridiculous nonsense. This guy thought his little bombs were more deadly than Miff's Deku Nuts? Absurd! The Mad Scrub was prepared to tell the guy off when he was tossed one of the grenadoes in question. It sailed toward him accurately and smoothly. It was an easy catch.

Splash

Miff took a moment to stare at the spot next to him where the weapon had disappeared below the water before he turned to look upon its owner again.

"I don't have any HANDS," the Mad Scrub said with a rare tone of intellectual superiority. Usually he reserved that mood for power and strength only.

To Miff's side came another, louder splash as Zafun emerged, drawing the Deku's attention once more. He was reminded now that a giant, deadly monster had come right up to him. It had been boring for him to fight so far so he'd kind of forgotten when Zect distracted him. After watching his personal minstrel give it the old Zora special, however, Miff was reminded of why they had come here in the first place.

"Oh yeah! Good work, cowboy! Now let's get this frog tamed!" he declared before making a series of quick, accurate hops off of the water and the Tiddly Wink's own arms and assorted body parts, finally landing up on the creature's head.

"You get horses to move by cracking the whippy-thing, right?" the excited Deku asked. Miff didn't have a whippy-thing so instead the Mad Scrub turned toward the rear side of the giant "frog". His spout leaf popped up and, using its hole as an aiming point Miff spit a Deku Nut with great accuracy back through all of the obstacles on its back. The intention was that it would crack against the thing's tail and, hopefully, that would prompt it forward. With that task done Miff turned back to face the same direction as his new steed and stomped a little wooden foot down on its head a few times to keep its attention focused on him. Despite the other people around to distract the "frog" Miff was its new master and he would be obeyed!

"Come on, giddy-up!"

Were these backwater fools serious? Cutting down a huge monster entirely made of algae made absolutely no sense. You would have to hack at it all day long until there was nothing left. It's even more harder when the algae could regenerate after some time. Zect looked at his sword, he knew full well that this wouldn't be enough to kill it.

He had a feeling that somewhere within that pile of living algae was the source of the monsters life force. If that stupid egotistical Scrub had managed to catch his grenadoe with its mouth (especially with such a big mouth it has), and shot it into Tiddly Wink, the blast along with the shared attacks from the others could have destroyed the beast from the inside.

Zect stood there angry that his plan was now shot down due to an overgrown weed plant and its inability to play catch. He should have just went over to where Miff was and shoved the grenadoe down it's big mouth hole.

Zect pulled out one of his other swords. It was a bit smaller that his main weapon, meant for times if he needed a lighter sword. He looked over at Tiddly Wink trying to examine the beast and find some kind of weak point. Zect had decided that if it had a weak spot, it would probably be in one of two places:

1. His head where the monsters brain should be.

2. The beasts chest where the heart would be located.

Zect decided to go ahead and go for the head shot. The only problem was getting close enough to strike it without being hit himself. He wouldn't feel any damage from the attack but it could knock him back before he got the chance to deal the strike.

Instead Zect took aim and putting as much force as he could, he threw his Ancients Sword at Tiddly Wink. The sword spun around in the air like a spinning saw blade right at the monsters head. Hopefully since it was being distracted by Miff it wouldn't see it coming right at it from behind.

Tiddly Wink was not a happy rot monster. A zora suddenly slammed into its chest, shoving a guitar into the orifices of its body. Before it could even respond a surge of electricity rushed through it. Tiddly Wink shrieked and clenched up, giving the agile deku ample opportunity to jump on board and attempt to ride the beast. The Deku Nut didn’t do much aside from leave an imprint in the slimy flesh of the monstrosity and irritate it further.

Once more dark energy rose up out of the ground and into Tiddly, seeming to empower it further. He shrieked again as a sword sliced into its neck, digging into it where the jugular should be. The shriek was cut short by this and turned into merely an attempt, as the sword blocked whatever vocal chords this thing had. It didn’t seem to deter Tiddly, however, as it set about getting rid of the deku that was stomping on its head.

Those clawed tentacles whipped about and lashed at everybody once more, this time packing yet more sting. Both Zafun and Miff found themselves affected by that dampening poison, however Tiddly seemed to be recoiling still from the shock the zora had given it. One of the clawed tentacles grabbed for Miff, looking to be rid of the annoyance, while a few fierce shakes of its head dislodged the sword from its throat and the weapon dug into the ground nearby it.

[Note: As it's looking like players may run out of life here I will make note that, at least in this occasion, players will have the choice of either death (at which point they become a poe) or simply being knocked out, meaning they're removed from the boss but their character is still fine.]

Miff may not have been on the water's surface anymore but that didn't rob him of his abundant Dekugility. As the Tiddly Wink's tentacle, now laced with a debilitating poison, came rushing at him Miff's head of leaves began to spin with great speed. The Mad Scrub lifted up off the giant rot monster's head with Flower Flight and allowed yet another whipping attack to pass by beneath his feet.

"Bad froggie!" Miff chided as the power of his flight wore off and he began to descend back toward the creature. "Obey your master!"

As he descended the Deku didn't return to his spot atop Tiddly Wink's head but instead drifted down by the side of its face. While passing by Miff, not yet feeling up to growing another Deku Nut, delivered a swift kick to its eye instead. Actually Miff wasn't sure if the giant "frog" had eyes given how dark the sockets were, but if it didn't he figured he'd at least kick the inside of its head.

"I don't think he's going to make a good horse, music man," Miff said with annoyance to Zafun as the Mad Marksman finished falling back to the surface of the swamp.

The pain that wracked Zafun's body was intense enough to force him back slightly, but not very far. His breathing was labored, the struggle to stand becoming as challenging as the short, bittersweet fight had been. The muscles of his hand were firmly clenched around the neck of the guitar, it's sharp edge glistening with leftover static from the attack.

The Deku's infectious humor brought out any strength Zafun could muster. "Suppose we'll have to put him down then." As the last words of his statement followed, his voice tightened, heaving the "axe" up and forward into the groove made by Zect's sword, which had already damaged the beast's throat rather heavily, to finish the job left.

His aim? To remove the beast's head in a stroke.

"Damn!" Zect was so close to hitting his target but at the last second the monsters head moved and he only pierced its neck. He was then attacked by the monster once more only this time, the force from it could be felt. Zect got up and look at his hands, the dark armor that had protected him up to this point was now fading away. He could slowly feel his normal state of mind coming back to him.

As the dark armor faded away reverting to its previous mask form, Zect pulled out another mask he had been carrying with him. He had thought that he wouldn't have the need to put on this mask. While it didn't have the mind altering effect like his last mask, the after effects of wearing this mask for long periods of time gave Zect an uneasy feeling.

Still the time to contemplate on whether or not to put on the mask was not in his schedule. He had to put it on and hope that he could kill it as soon as possible. Zect quickly put on the mask and felt the wave of darkness hit him as the mask began to fuse with his face and come to life. When it was all said and done, Zect stood there hunched down in his dark beast form holding his sword. His brightly lit yellow eyes looked over at Tiddly Wink who had once again revived himself.

He growled and let out a howl that echoed around the swamp. His multiple tails flared outwards and his teeth became fully exposed. Zect tilted backwards and grabbed his sword with both hands. With all of his strength he threw his other sword towards Tiddly Wink at full speed.

Zect hunched over and was now walking on all fours side to side like a wolf checking on its prey.

OoC: Sorry I missed my post, like I said I'd be longer without my laptop. x.x But I have it back, so my posting is going to be back up.

Ic: Mara kept out of range observing the fight for as long as she could to buy herself some time to regenerate her abilities, and then without manoveuring in range, she took her wand and channeled a healing spell on herself, hoping Zafun would survive to make an attack. She had to look out for herself first.

[After a discussion among staff members it has been determined that throwing weapons not meant for range will be penalized at half damage from here on. Furthermore as the Beast Mask’s ability description states that it doubles strength it will count as doubling damage. Finally as Zafun's health will reach zero this round he will have a chance to use any abilities or items he may have that can help, but will otherwise be removed from the thread.]

Tiddly Wink growled as it lashed about, but the deku deftly jumped over the lashes and floated downward, kicking Tiddly in the eye quite bluntly. The beast shrieked and recoiled away from the floating deku, and straight into a bladed guitar that cut into its neck, deepening the wound that it had already received from the thrown sword. The guitar didn’t get through but did leave a nasty gash in the side of Tiddly’s neck. If it had normal physiology that may have been the coup de grace.

Before Tiddly even had a chance to recoil from that attack the blunt end of a sword slammed into its flank and fell into the swamp water, landing not far from the previously thrown sword. The beast shrieked loudly and turned toward the source of the thrown sword, the beast, and hissed loudly. Meanwhile the final member of the party, the gerudo, healed herself successfully and remained out of the fray.

Tiddly was starting to get annoyed with these people. It hissed and ran at Zect, rushing across the swamp. The tentacles from its back lashed about at the party as usual, slashing at each and every person in the swamp. No one felt the slow stiffness of the poison, but the tentacles still did their fair share of damage as Tiddly charged, noticeably slower than before as the injuries stuck.

Fearful the beast backed away. Of course it would, that thing knew without a doubt it was coming down. It would not survive the encounter any longer, than a few more minutes, and Zafun knew that just as well as anyone.

And with guitar clenched in hand, barely clinging to consciousness, he knew that just as well as anyone. He felt the familiar surge of electric build up in his fins tingling. Time to play another tune.

He clawed at the strings creating another orb of sound that repelled the beast's tentacled attack, forcing them to miss by either a little or a lot, and then he grinned at the monster.

"You think you can take us down? You've got another thing coming, toady." With his energy waning he leaned back against a tree trunk and sank down into the water fingers still plucking at his guitar strings.

Action 1: Bio-electric Riffing (Repels Attacks made as the enemy's last action. This deals no damage as the target is not in range and it is not being charged. Purely defensive.)

Action 2: Play Resurgence Solo

[MIFF]

"Hey, get back here!" Miff said angrily as he was slapped by the most recent lashing of of Tiddly Wink's tentacles. Normally he could dodge those with ease but this time he was disoriented from also being battered and flung aside by Zafun's Bio-Electric Riffing. The small Mad Scrub left Zafun behind(He'd get a stern talking-to later) and charged after the creature, hopping across the swamp water as he manoeuvred. "You don't get to disobey me and just walk away!"

Miff didn't stop hopping once he reached Tiddly Wink. The Deku kept on jumping right onto the creature's tail and then up and across its back. As he came upon the head area again Miff tilted forward during descent and spun his Propeller Leaves as he passed by the side of the monster's neck. This time it was not to hover in the air but as a weapon to slap down through the part of Tiddly Wink's neck not yet completely cut through by Zect's two attacks prior and Zafun's most recent one.

Mara saw the creature weakening, then watched as Zafun fell down into the water. She gritted her teeth, hoping that after the fight she could heal him in time. But first things first, they had to kill this thing.

So she rushed at it as fast as she could, putting her wand back on her belt, and gripping her sword, plunged it in as far as it would go, twisting it and ripping it out with whatever strength she had left. Hopefully, it would be enough to down it.

"Heh so you want to play with me now?" Zect said as Tiddly Wink came rushing over towards him now. Its tentacles came lashing out once again at Zect who attempted to guard against them. As his guard was up, Zect kept an eye out to time his next attack against Tiddly Wink.

The other two that had managed to survive were dishing out their last attacks in hopes that it would finish the monster off for good. Zect himself would try to deal the last blow.

"Hmph you had better be worth all of this mess."


Zect crouched down on all fours and braced himself. As Tiddly Wink came into range, Zect jumped straight at the beast. With his claws he dug deep into both of the monsters eye sockets and gripped as hard as he could before pulling the monsters head as hard as he could in an attempt to rip its head off. With its neck already loosened by his last two attacks as well as Miffs, pulling the monsters head off should be simple enough.

Zect landed on the other side of Tiddly Wink both of his hands covered in black swamp goo and whatever else the beast was made up of.

Tiddly Wink charged forward toward Zect. On the way the deku kicked it, which caused the beast to stumble noticeably. Then Mara ran up and slashed at it with her sword. The slash cut down the great rot monstrosity and Tiddly fell face first into the swamp water. Its own momentum carried it forward several feet right into Zect’s final attack. The beast form’s strength gave him the extra push he needed, and though Tiddly was already dead.

The head tore away from the neck slowly but surely, with tendons of whatever it was made out clinging to the neck until the very end. Zafun managed to fend off the attack enough to survive until the end and his solo echoed throughout the swamp as Zect held the severed head up high. There was only a moment of glory before the head dissolved into an acrid black ooze that dripped out of Zect’s grasp and into the swamp water, disappearing. The body, too, faded away into the swamp in the same manner.

A black shard shot out from the ooze and spun through the air, landing right in front of Miff. As the black ooze faded away there was a glimmer from the center. Upon closer examination one would find a MEDALLION covered in ooze resting on a small mound out of the swamp water, waiting to be claimed by whoever wants it. There doesn’t seem to be any magic coming from it, but it holds a weight of significance.

As the party collected themselves life began to return to the swamp. A frog croaked, some crickets chirped nervously and a flurry of wings told them that some birds were back. Suddenly there was light in the swamp as many orbs of white flew about. The fairies buzzed overhead and suddenly, out of nowhere, began to rain rupees down upon the party as a thank you for getting rid of the evil.

[Miff receives a shard as MVP to do with as he sees fit. Further information about the shards and how one might go about obtaining one of their own will be available soon. The Medallion is merely an item for now, available to whoever wants to take it. Miff, Zafun and Zect will receive 75 rupees reward, while Mara will receive 50 rupees.]

As the monster dissolved into nothing and the swamp returned to its natural muggy self, Zect removed his mask reverting to his normal Hylian form. From out of the remaining black ooze came a dark shard that appeared in front of the Scrub. Zect wasn't sure what it was or what value it had, but he felt that the Scrub should be the one that have it. His own treasure proved to have more value than any random shard that came from a swamp monster.

As he gathered his weapons he noticed a shiny glimmer near the end of the swamp lake. Zect headed over to where it was at and took a closer look. It looked to be a medallion just resting on a small patch by itself.

"A medallion in the middle of this godforsaken swamp?"

Zect picked it up and chuckled as he cleaned it up and ran it through his fingers.

"I suppose I could claim this as my token of victory. It'd be a nice addition to my collection."

He looked over at the others, then turned back around and left the swamp.

[MIFF]

The grateful Fairies might have given Mara the same amount of rupees that they showered upon the rest of the conquering heroes. Unfortunately for her, however, the one handing out her reward was pelted by a Deku Nut before it could finish, causing the lot of them to scatter away.

"Hehe. Stupid Fairies," Miff said with grim amusement. They were always some of his favourite targets to shoot down. The Mad Scrub didn't need much in the way of rupees but decided to suck them up into his spout anyway. They could always be spit at someone later. In the midst of sucking up the money Miff also ended up inhaling a small black shard that was right in front of him without even noticing.

"That last theme you played for my triumphant killing blow was pretty good, cowboy!" Miff yelled to a slumped-over Zafun across the swamp. He of course assumed that the giant "frog" had died as soon as he hit it and that the others had merely knocked it down after it was already dead on its feet. "Next time you should focus on playing music and leave the monster-bashing to just me, though."

Miff wouldn't wait for his "personal minstrel" forever. The Deku hopped off of the small bit of above-water land he stood perched upon and skipped across the water to the edge of the swamp.
