So I don't know if I'm officially or unofficially the head Quest guy, but this is something that came up the other day that has been bugging me. Please help me help you!
Basically, there are some threads that have either zero responses or the players are just gabbing about nothing. I have wanted to just pop in and drop a monster there, have a quick battle, end, pass out rewards.
The concern that was expressed to me with such a thing is that I (and in the future, other Quest Masters) may ruin a RP and cause some annoyance.
If the thread is Open, would it be acceptable in your eyes for this to happen? It would never happen in a Closed thread. Personally if the thread is Open, that is you saying that you're ready for anyone and anything, so it'd be fine.

I am open to any of my characters getting randomly attacked at any time. The characters themselves may not like it so much, but screw them.

I like this idea Mr. Jabber.
Random Monster annoyance battles are always fun.
I do have a question though... how will you decide the difficulty of the monster or annoyance you drop upon the member?

A more simple way of going about this would be that people would include the "Battle/B" term within their threads name which is an open call for you to allow random monsters into that thread. Most likely, if they put "B" they are looking for a fight, and whether it be random monsters or character it should be acceptable. of course, we can always request as well.
In fact I'd love to request for a random battle for my threads...

First I'd look at the person(s) character sheet(s) and see kinda how beast their abilities are. Then I'd drop a monster. Then after a few rounds, I get a feel for battle styles and can decrease or increase difficulty on the fly. That is kinda what I want to avoid. Besides messying up the forum, it is you asking for it to happen whereas I'd much rather do a fullout Quest if I'm doing requests. It kinda removes the surprise element of a Random Battle, which is a good portion of the point. Haha, again, I'd like to avoid Random Battle requests. But hit me up on PM with details of what you need. =) I do want to make some points here that should be made. Firstly, a regular RP thread can be converted to a Quest upon request. If you only want a single battle such as what a Random Battle would provide, then just say so. But I want there to be a clear designation between a Quest and Random Battle. Quest: Pre-meditated. A single battle or infinite. Threads are typically longer and yield great rewards. Difficulty is agreed upon by participants. Will usually hold elements that are non-battle such as puzzles.
Random Battle: Comes out of no where. Single battle with a random difficulty (you will win some, you will lose some). Reward is random as difficulty is random. Because it is not a Quest, you can have people leave and join as needed (the occasional boss level creature will appear, so you will need to ask for help). Would follow all other Quest rules, however. Secondly, this really isn't all that different than a person entering an Open thread and attacking you out of no where. As such, I don't really see a legitimate reason as to why anyone would oppose this.

I like. I have a feeling that you might be bothering those of us in the Monster Hunter Guild with a few random battles here and there.
Mostly quests, but a few random battles lol

*Raises hand* Another note; that idea is currently being applied already *Points to the Rules*
Needless to say, its not really being used.

I like it. It would provide with a lot of cool twists in character development, as well as relationship development of the characters involved.

Heh. I remember on another board we had something like this, except there would be not-so-random assassination attempts on characters in open threads (other characters would put a hit on somebody and one of the assassins would attempt to kill them).
The assassinations never worked of course, but it was extremely entertaining and helped with character development a bunch.
