New Site

So, thinking on running this site, I've run into a very, very large hole into this site's security. Namely, if a report is sent to PB and they find reason to issue a warning to this site, it's over. The report is sent to the head admin account. Because Azler's not around, and likely will not be coming back, that means it'd never be read and the site would be shut down in 48 hours. To compound the matter, the PM is sent only to the admin account, meaning this could happen at any time and the only way we would know is a message of suspension. For all we know, we might have already gotten one.

This brings us to the poll. Should we move to a new site where the admin account is under the control of yours truly? Or should we take our chances here and hope we don't run into that. Naturally, something this massive is not something that a staff member should decide without warning, or at least discussion. So this thread is being left open so that members can discuss it.

There are pros and cons to both sides, hence why I should at least let you guys chime in and help come to a decision.

IF WE DO MOVE...

PRO: We have more security. Being silently killed off due to a reckless member or a troll wouldn't happen as I would be able to intercept the problem before it got out of hand.

PRO: We'd have a new plot. I... admit this one went nowhere and no one really got attached to it, so this might not count for much.

PRO: Changes. Things would be changed. The racials would for the most part be redone, as I have made a system for them before, which testers have agreed is rather neat, so that would be implemented. It's a system based on points that one receives on creation, and disperses to mix and match racials for their race.

CON: New site. We would effectively be starting again, and progress would be lost.

CON: This plot could not be continued. I love the shards too, but the plot is Azler's. He thought it up and it wouldn't be right to take something like that without his permission, which means...

CON: No carrying over rupees and such. I've thought long and hard about this, but due to a lack of shards, which imbalances those who got them, and the sheer hell of making sure everything's right (I'd rather not rely solely on "I had x much", too abusable), means that I'd rather not carry over everything.

IF WE STAY HERE...

PRO: Stats will be kept as is. We likely won't do anything with the shards and will likely axe them and redo the plot though. But you'll get to keep your stuff.

PRO: Familiarity. You won't have to adjust to a new site.

CON: However, we are taking a gamble. If we get a notice from PB, it's over. SoS will likely be deleted.

CON: If Azler does come back, then he'll take control back. This is a given, he created the site and he has the right to. But chances are, he'll post for a couple days, vanish without warning yet again, and we'll be back at this.


So yeah, as you can see, this is a big decision, so I'm going to let the members discuss and vote as to what they think is best. The poll will stay open for two weeks.

I agree with a new site because what if we stay and start a new plot and then BAM, this site is deleted cause of some warning we never knew about. I'd rather just move to another board and start fresh. It might do our community good anyways.

I have not read everything, I would go on for several paragraphs but I have to go. There is nothing to worry about; a site called Dragons of Selzar has extremely high mature content. Sexual, rape, mating... that stuff. It still exists, so have many other sites with similar content.

Now this site has nothing like that, those sites I described earlier have been there for years. We have nothing to worry about, besides for someone to report this site for anything gets immediately buried under hundreds of thousands of PM's I PMed one of the founders in the Proboards homepage. It was never answered and it was an extremely important PM (Confidential so do not ask).

Regardless my point is we have nothing to worry about.

Edit: not to mention creating a site similar to this is any way is considered plagiarism, if you do create a site is has to be new, nothing like this site, trust me you want to avoid making a sister site without permission from original founder. I made that mistake once and it did not end well for my members and me.

Unfortunately Enzair, that is not the case. About... I want to say a month after the site opened, we got a notice from PB for mature content regardless. Another notice would technically be our second one.

Regardless of those warnings, sites with mature content still exist they never act on their warnings. but if you trully believe this site is so bad they will deleate it i will gladly give you my help, but i will not do plagiarism. i can create you a site template within a day perferably on Saturday or Sunday, or pasific time afternoon Friday. in a day i will have everything you need and you can fill in everything ellse.

Warnings aren't exactly something to be taken lightly, but to be honest, I think regardless of any of the other factors, moving to a new site might be the best bet. Seeing as how the main admin left and didn't pass on his powers to the other staff, it would be safer to just start fresh somewhere else. I know I was never able to finish my profile and I'm not a common member, but I really do admire this site, and want to help in any way to either keep it going here or somewhere else.

Making a new site would mean getting an administrative account, which is needed to run a site properly. You would have access to all the powers, and all board matters NEED to have that account checked and used constantly. You could PM and/or e-mail all members and notify them of the move, and leave a huge message on the front page notifying everyone of members moving to the new site.

If you need help with staffing, advertising or skin/graphics, I'm fully experienced in each and can offer portfolio work and references at your request.

There isn't any plagiarism involved, Enzair. Most of the topics you see were written up by the other staff, who have stated before they would not mind. And Proboards does act on those warnings, check the Support boards at any given time, there are plenty of 25(a) suspensions. support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=support

As for a bestiary, it would be nice, but it's not concern #1.

It especially wouldn't be plagiarism if Nightmare took it in a new direction. For lack of any other example, Hayley has done so a handful of times. Not to mention he could write up his own rules easily.

And yes, while a mature warning is usually not something we need to worry about, unfortunately some idiot decided to report SoS a while back and now it is on a watchlist essentially.

I'm pro move for a variety of reasons. Partially because it isn't fair to the rather active memberbase to have SoS die for such stupid reasons. And partially because this is the least drama-llama option there is. The other reasons I don't have to go into.

The only thing I ask is that this doesn't turn into a staff bashing thread. Mature discussion. Not that this is a problem yet, but just sayin'.

Well, I suppose I should voice my concerns... First of all, how much redesigning will need to be done to the characters? I have no real issue with leaving my mountain of Rupees (My character might, but that's besides the point xD ) But I would guess having to remake every character would be a bit troublesome for some.

And also, what if Azler comes back and get's everything together? Granted he's been a bit neglectful as of late, but he was a pretty good admin at the start. What if we insight some kind of civil war.

Beyond that it makes me wonder if we could start one with the number of people... A new sight is a smig of a gamble, it could insight more membership and returns, or make the trickle we have all the lesser. Do you have the ability to send emails and such, and perhaps create a boost in memberships?

And I can understand the Rupees, but will you be doing anything to drag people in? Alzers 100 Rupees for the first people to sigh up WAS rather effective.

Well that's all I had on my mind. I rather like this sight, and I think it could handle well enough under Nightmares leadership, so I suppose A new site seems like the best course of action in the end, just throwing my 2 cents in.

We can totally start fresh with Nightmare at the helm. I for one have supported our new overlord since he was given a staff position. Besides, this place has slowly crept into obscurity. Even I haven't posted in a couple of days, and really feel the need for a new place. Which is why I got active somewhere else.

Anyway, I would follow Nightmare to the ends of Hyrule, as long as his mechanical pets don't rape me in the process.

Oh wait, I'm the one with mechanical pets. MWHAHAHAHAHA whatever.

New site ftw. I was pretty much leaving because this place was going to hell and Azler never got back with the staff thing and Nightmare cant run the site by himself.

Being one of Night's stalkers followers, and taking a step back to look over the pros and cons, the new site seems like the way to go. Inevitably this site would go down anyway due to Az's inactivity, so just getting people to move now seems like the best choice.

I admit it myself that this forum has been reduced to a deteriorated state, and any attempt to further try and run it in these conditions - with or without Azler - would be counterproductive. As for the report, well, even more the reason to just start afresh. It's a threat, but it's based on nothing but some anonymous idiot's opinion, and frankly, I haven't seen sex anywhere.

looks like it is settled already were going to move to a new site, but i stand by my vote, but i will support the new site, if all the other active staff had made the stuff like you said nightmare and said its ok, then its not plagiarism.

I will help build the site template, i will offer you headers and footers, i can make you the site template within a day, and more. you get the site and i can add all the catigories, the boards suboards and so on, just tell me what you want and I'll get it (not counting Graphics and pics)

I type up to 76 words a minute i have an eye for detail.

this will help cut the time so it is active earlier, if you accept this offer tell me when, if not i can still offer you new headers and footers.

The site would be Twilight Princess based, Clow. So you would be able to keep your characters. Might have to modify a few fields to fit the new CS, but that would be it. We're also reserving Leader Spots on the new site if we do this, so Nixes could be the Assassin if you wanted to, etc etc.
