Two pools of crystal blue eyes flickered brightly as she stared up at the mountain standing proud and tall right before her. A soft smile pursed her pale lips. To any onlooker, it was just a cute girl's smile, a charming gesture of happiness. However there was more to her smile than just a simple expression of delight.
She pivoted on the balls of her feet, spinning around in circles, around and around until she made herself dizzy. Her twin tails twirling like cerulean ribbons blowing within the wind, skipping and flowing without a care in the world. Iris hardly had any cares that she could think of having especially when it came to her own safety.
Here she was traveling on her own on the very mountain named Death. It's name lived up to it's very reputation, where one false move could lead to one's death as quick as the snap of one's finger. If not for the hot steam that blew out of the cracks of the mountain path, then the rolling gorons that tumbled down the road worn earth could potentially crush someone who stood in their way. Iris cared little of such notions.
Dizzily, she staggered about like a drunken fool, laughing at her foolishness playing around on the dangerous slope. When she paused in place, she placed her hand onto the red earth noticing up until now the vast difference her color was to the area. She stood out like a blue gem upon the clay-like earth. Everything was colored in a rust red shade, and her hues were all but complimentary. In a way, it was like the world was alienating her~
So be it. She was already deliriously out of tune with the world it didn't matter much now, did it? Iris hummed to herself before getting lost in space with her eyes to the sky. Her eyes fascinated by the smoke that kept pouring out from the mouth of Death Mountain. Wondering, and imagining what it was like to be inside of the mines the Gorons resided in.

Making his way up the death mountain path, Abe decided it was much too hot for his cloak. It was his normal attire, and he often felt Bare without it. It concealed him almost perfectly, save for his eyes and sometimes his mouth when he wore a scarf with it. It was a very thin cloak, but even so, wearing too much in a place like Death Mountain was a bad idea. It was already so hot that adding anything in attire wasn't going to make anything better.
But Abe realized he had no bag to put it in if he removed it, so he kept it on for the time being. After all, he was only on the mountain for enjoyment purposes. While he much preferred more serene environments such as the Lake or the ocean, it was a nice break to get away from it to see the rest of Hyrule, as he had decided to do today. Death Mountain was both an ominous and majestic landmark, and Abe had much respect for the Gorons who could tolerate such harsh climate and environment alike.
What's worse, Abe thought, was that the Mines had to be twice as hot, and the Gorons were known to frequent these mines like it was a second home to them. Abe figured he would never be able to do that; moreover, he wouldn't be able to stay in Death Mountain very long period. It was much too hot for his tastes. He preferred the cold.
Stepping past a few geysers of hot steam, Abe continued his trek up part of the mountain path. He would much like to visit the Springs that were so widely talked about. Apparently, even the Zoras went there, and Abe had a curiosity for the Zoras, and really wanted to meet one, though he hadn't been able to actually talk to one since he and his now-dead brother Thomas played in Lake Hylia as children.
Strangely, though, as Abe entered a rocky clearing with a few new slopes of craggy, red rock, he noticed a very apparent figure. A girl, dressed in blue, with outrageously long blue hair. She looked about his age. Abe blinked. She was pretty, but so colorful. Perhaps it was just the fact that she was contrasting with such a color as rusty red, but even so, she stuck out like a sore thumb. It interested Abe, who smiled, and his big purple eyes twinkled under his hood. People were interesting to him, and she was someone he wanted to meet. That much was certain.
He laughed to himself, her happiness at spinning around becoming contagious. Abe lowered his hood and watched her spin for a while, and when she stopped, Abe laughed some more and approached her. "You seem to be having some fun," he said with a warm smile. And that she did. Abe wasn't the type of person to spin around in circles, but he really liked the kinds of people who did do that. They were often crazy and spontaneous, two things Abe adored. "Any chance I could join you?"

Iris was content. Sure, it was a little hot for her taste, but she didn't mind getting a good work out from playing ever so close to the dangerous slopes, and craggy earth. Then again the reckless adventurer found herself loving anything that had risks, and life-threatening positions. Or at least in moderation~ Iris had codes of sorts that she would not cross in order to keep what sense she had left from breaking entirely.
It was odd, but it wasn't every day that she would go venturing on a mountain, or come up with some kind of dangerous stunt that'll end up resulting in a broken limb somehow. It did sound nice to do at the moment, but she'd much prefer to be able to get down the mountain with functioning ligaments.
She began to ponder in that moment of reprieve what it must be like to be as sturdy, and unmoving like the earth. Strong, and stubborn like that of the finest minerals - always in the rough, but when managed to cut to the depths of the earth's surface, and unveil it's true colors: beauty was all that can be found. Steel as strong as an army of men with the strength capable of slaying a dragon like the sword from the tale of a prince saving a princess locked up in a tower. She couldn't help but smile as she recited the story in her head carefully as she took in the dusty air of the mountain's path in her little break.
It wasn't until she got through the middle of her story that her fantasies were broken by the sound of a voice. It came out at first as soft mumbling, but soon enough as she drew herself back into reality, she heard the voice distinct, and crisp.
Iris blinked. She turned around to the direction where she heard the voice, and there stood a young man right before her. When did he get here? Why was he here? Well, she'll find out soon enough. She twirled around her finger a few strands of her aquamarine hair as her smile stayed locked upon her pale lips. "You're more than welcome, my brave adventurer," she replied, "You're free to do as you please~"
She couldn't help but giggle. Balancing the weight back on both of her feet, she half-skipped, half-pranced on over to Abe, leaning forward giving all but what little space between them as her blue eyes stared straight into his purple optics. "Where does your path take you? Over yonder into the perilous entrance of Death Mountain?" she asked curiously.

Abe couldn't help but offer his rarely seen toothy smile. He laughed as she danced around. This girl was interesting and unique for sure, and Abe much liked that. As she came closer, he didn't budge and inch, and stared into her eyes with the same determination and curiosity she had. "Brave adventurer?" he asked aloud, thinking about himself. He was certainly no adventurer, though he'd like to be for sure. He hadn't yet traveled all of Hyrule, and that was on his bucketlist.
And free to do as he pleased, well... That was a stretch. Abe was agile enough to be able to climb mountains if he so chose, but this girl seemed like the type of person to also enjoy such acts. She seemed to be very independent, and another thing that interested Abe was that she was alone. She hadn't come with friends or sibligns or family, so perhaps she was much like him; perhaps she enjoyed ventures on her own, or perhaps she enjoyed the isolation. And Abe certainly didn't want to intrude on that.
As for his path, however, Abe dug deeper into that question. Where was his path taking him after all? He had been as far as Ordon, which was decently far, being from Eldin himself, and of course everyone had been to Lanayru. The castle was a sight to see, and Abe frequented the town both to shop and sightsee. But he hadn't been anywhere near the desert or the white-blanketed hills of Snowpeak; beauty that was talked about there seemed to be unlike anything he had even dreamed of.
Abe did love the snow, after all, and wanted to make sure to travel there sometime soon. Still staring at her but aloof in thought, Abe let himself fall into dreams of the mountains. The mountains he was currently in weren't as beautiful as Snowpeak probably was, and they were surely cold, which was a better-suited environment for Abe.
Suddenly he snapped back to reality. He smiled at her again. "My path..." He began, looking up to the sky with a pondering look on his face. "Well, my path takes me wherever, I suppose." he continued, now walking past her to look up at the mountains. He turned back to her, addressing her once more. "I go where the wind carries me. And today, that's in the mountains." He turned back to the mountains he spoke of.
Elegant though they were, majestic as they were, they seemed proud. Proud and fierce, like the desert probably was. Like the Gerudos were, who lived in the desert. Like Abe was not. He was never someone to exert himself or put himself out there, shining radiantly and independently much like the mountains were.
Turning back to her, Abe approached her again, stopping just short of her. "So who are you, anyway?" He asked amiably.

You had to glide through where the turf was smooth. Or at least in this case when you had nothing weighing you down - no cares to keep you down on the ground. Just dancing through life like it was nothing more than a dream. Iris liked his smile. She liked him already~ He didn't budge when she got close to him. He wasn't afraid of having people within his personal space, which Iris tended to invade most of the time. It was rather difficult for her to tell when enough was enough so she had to play it out with the notions. "You either have to be brave or really foolish," she said playfully, "To be traveling alone up here. It's not safe, you know~"
The hypocrite. Like she had any room to be giving words of wisdom to some stranger when she should be following her own advice. She very rarely followed her own advice knowing that she'd get hurt because of not listening. Her mind went from one thing to another, distracted, and empty before she can comprehend what she's doing is wrong. It wasn't that she was independent, doing as she pleased, because she didn't need anybody. She just found that people were more or less a waste of her time. It didn't mean she didn't get lonely, but rather she found it difficult to interact with others.
This young man however didn't seem at all troubled by her presence. In fact, he seemed to enjoy her company, which was a pleasant thought to take in. Though how long would these pleasantries last? It was a strain for her to keep her mind in reality for long periods of time, and already it was a stretch to stay in tune with him. "A wanderer," she mused softly, "How wonderful~ Mind if I accompany you to the mountain? I promise I'll carry my own weight. No strings attached."
When he approached her again asking her who she was, Iris took a moment or two, to process it in her head. A name...
Name...
That's right. She'd nearly forgotten her name!
"Iris Lionhaert," it rolled off the tip of her tongue. How the hell did she almost forget her own name? Perhaps it was because she had a hard time contemplating that she changed her clothes, and her hair, that it didn't strike her that it came with a brand new name. Her new form or so to speak was still taking some time getting used to. "What may I call you?"

Looking back up to the mountain, Abe sighed and laughed aloud a bit. A fool or an adventurer, and of the two, he knew what he was. It was rare for him to come to a more dangerous location, such as the Mountain, but a little riskiness every now and again was a wonderful thing. Especially when in such interesting company; company which Abe had not seen the likes of in some time. This girl, introducing herself as Iris, was intriguing at the least. She seemed intelligent and crazy, comprising the best parts of either trait.
"Well," Abe said with a smile, "I'm quite the fool." He bowed lightly to her after she introduced herself, then raised his head up to her. "Iris," he said with a jokingly polite tone, "what a pretty name." Abe wasn't one to take things seriously very often, and she seemed like the type that didn't either. Perhaps an adventure together would be something of some fun to both of them. "And for the record, as dangerous as it is, I never take that into consideration. What fun is an adventure with such intense caution? I say we just go!"
He turned, laughing, and threw his cloak off of him. It landed on the ground, and he rushed towards the rock face and found a foothold. He turned behind him quickly to see if she would give chase. Quickly but carefully Abe pushed off with his foot and found somewhere for his hand to rest, and began climbing the rock face before him. "I'll race you to the top!" He called without turning to face her. Her accompanying him sounded absolutely wonderful, and he earnestly hoped she was in the mood to race.
"Oh," he shouted back to Iris as he continued to climb, "my name's Abe! It's a pleasure to meet you!"

Was he for real? Iris wasn't just dreaming him up from being delusional again, was she? Reason being is that she was having a hell of a hard time believing that such a person was willing to disregard the risks of liabilities. She saw quite a bit of herself in Abe that it was rather scary to have a taste of her own medicine. However the bitter taste of such medicine would turn sweet. A soft smile escaped from her lips, but she wouldn't notice it yet.
No. Iris was a little on the slow when it came to realizing her expressions have changed. She had to admit that he was nothing short of interesting as well, and she wanted to engage in getting to know him better. What drove him to take the leap of faith and engage in such a dangerous adventure in the first place?
Her question would be put on hold for the most part just taking everything for what it was. The confusion would just have to sit there for now as she enjoyed her new found company. She had to admit it was nice not to be so alone. That, and the fact that she wasn't getting hurt in the process or in some kind of trouble somehow. It was weird, but the feelings all the same were earnest. "I think I'm going to like you," she said as a matter of factually.
She blinked. By the time it hit her on what he wanted, she pranced onto her feet, and followed right behind. Her heart began to pound in her chest as the feeling of the adrenaline moving through her body. She picked up the pace rather quickly finding it easier to gain momentum by grabbing the proper foothold on the jagged surface. One foot after the other lunging carefully as if taking towards the sky. "Likewise, Abe," she said with glee.
Bending her knees a little more, she added extra strength into her last jump, and made a move to pass him. Her twintails fluttering like ribbons in the wind as she raced him until they found a finish line. Where and when didn't really matter~ It was the time spent that counted to be honest.
Iris was enjoying ever second of it.

By now Abe was laughing merrily. This was fun, and he hadn't been able to enjoy himself like this in a while. He'd decided it was high time he left his sword at home and go enjoy the world, which he was now doing. He smiled to himself as he continued to climb, happy to be spending time with his new friend. Iris... She did seem to be a lot like him in some ways, and completely different in others. She was a good contrast, and Abe hoped to spend time with her more frequently after today ended.
But it wasn't time to dwell on the end of the day, as that was still far away. Abe continued to climb, kicking off each foothold with an expert motion, as if he'd done it before, but he hadn't. Then, unsurprisingly, Iris shot ahead of him at full speed, gaining momentum up the cliff. She was getting distance like he couldn't. It was as if she'd practiced for this or something, but then again, Abe could just blame his weak physical stature. He laughed to himself and called up to her. "Hey!" The young man laughed. He was losing, but that didn't matter much to him.
He was having fun. Having fun like he hadn't had in a long time. It wasn't as though Abe was mr. Gloom-and-Doom all the time, but he simply hadn't found the time to come enjoy himself like this. Especially not since the death of Thomas. They would have done stuff like this all the time if Thomas hadn't...
Abe shook the memory, deciding it was best to stay optimistic on a day like today. Abe averted his eyes as Iris began to climb higher, so as to not accidentally look up her skirt. He tried feverishly to gain distance up the cliff, and he found a rather sturdy and large foothold which he shot himself up with. He reached high and grabbed a ledge, pulling himself up using various footholds, in an attempt to pass Iris, though it was a weak attempt.
He didn't care... It was a good day. "Dangit! I should work out or something..." Abe mumbled to himself as he climbed. He hadn't ever been very physically fit or strong, simply because he didn't really find it necessary to build himself up in such a way. He was a quick and agile fighter, that much was sure, but he rarely fought anymore nowadays. Things were more peaceful, and Abe was appreciative to have days like this one.

As a child, Iris never had the chance to play with other children, and tended to play on her own. She convinced herself that she didn't need any friends, and could have fun all by herself. So she drew herself away from society, and began living in her own little world where everything wasn't as it seemed. A place for her to escape the hardships of reality - a sanctuary to call her own. However, she couldn't help but admit to enjoying Abe's playful nature. He wasn't by any means athletic, and he didn't seem like a warrior out to save the world, but that was perfectly fine. A friend was something she needed.
To remind her that she was alive, if anything else~
Iris didn't want to think about the negativity that already weighed down her life in the structures of the four walls that was her life back at home. For now, her loneliness would be put on the side, and in it's place would be a new feeling. A feeling of being apart of something she's never thought about - let alone knew she had.
She stopped a little ways ahead. Turning around, her aquamarine eyes watched as Abe attempted to catch up with her, flickering brightly as she climbed up the mountain. Laughter escaped from her lips when she heard him complain, but it was quite entertaining to say the least. "What doesn't kill you," she mused, "makes you stronger. Just don't go dying on me and we'll be all that, and a bag of chips."

The top of the cliff was near, and it seemed as though Iris had already reached it and was looking down at him, calling down about strengthening his being. It was a good thought, Abe decided, and something that he knew to be true, though he didn't often think about it. Physical exercise, again, was never something Abe was good with, nor did he ever try. This girl clearly did-- at least to better a degree than Abe did-- and that was evident, since she'd beaten him to the top. Abe was curious as to how she did so well, though he wasn't surprised that he lost the race.
To him, however, it didn't matter much. To him, the fun was what mattered, and since he was having much of it, the young man was content. He hadn't raced anyone up a cliff face before, and it was good that she was the person he shared that experience with. As he climbed higher, Abe thought about what she said. "Perhaps you're right,"[/color he called up to her, laughing a bit as he struggled to get to the top. "But I may NOT be all that and a bag of chips," he muttered, almost laughing at himself and his inability to climb this cliff face efficiently.
Eventually, he made it up, and joined Iris at the top, looking around at the view. From here, it seemed as though the world could be seen, even though realistically, Abe could only see a bit past Kakariko from his current position. He breathed heavily, having exhausted himself from his exercise for the week, or month, or however long. He laughed, too, and turned back to her, his hands on his knees. "That was tough." He said, a smile forming on his lips, and with a light, tired chuckle.
