Jackal loved this forest. It was one of the few places in the world where felt absolutely ... free. She didn't have to wear her cloak, here, pretending she didn't exist. She didn't have to be wary of those who still thought she was a murderer, or who just hated her because of how she looked. Those problems belonged to the city. True, the people she cared about were usually there, and that was important, but ... she would always enjoy the forests, and the wild. She would always enjoy the feeling of freedom.

She was perched on a high tree-branch, feeling the wind on her face, letting it drift through her hair. She hadn't been this carefree in a long, long time ... the knowledge that she could return to Castle Town whenever she wanted and say hello to her brother, or visit Vriska, was almost overwhelming after such a long time of secrecy and fear. It made her smile, sitting there above the world.
