APPEARANCE,
Jackal is not your usual Minish. Possibly because there’s a bit of human-DNA tossed in there, way more of her animal-form has bled over onto her more humanoid form than normal. Though there’s no doubt that in terms of facial structure and body type she is very attractive, the fact that she has claws and stuff is usually a bit of a turn-off. Her arms and legs have rock-hard scales trailing up to her shoulders and thighs, while her fingers and toes have wicked-looking, razor-sharp claws. While her hands have the normal five digits, her feet only have three, interestingly, but thankfully this doesn’t cause her to lose balance.
Somewhat more dramatically, there are a pair of small, useless wings on her forearms, which are more notable because they end in deadly blades of hardened bone, which make for nasty weapons. She also has a big, furry tail, that ends in a lethal-spike made of the same hard bone material in her tail. While it has no nerves and doesn’t feel pain, it can be broken, though it will grow back over a very long period of time.
As for her more human dimensions, she has long, blue hair matching the same tone as her fur and scales, and her clever eyes glow a somewhat alarming red, made more obvious in the dark. She can, apparently, make the glowing effect go away, though it takes some concentration and spurt sof emotion typically cause her eyes to flare up. Interestingly, there is a section of fur and scales around her chest, which effectively serves as a self-censor, but around her waist, she has tied an old—but meticulously clean—rag in the form of a loose-fitting skirt that might more accurately be described as a loincloth.
All of the rest is so dramatic that sometimes one mightn’t quite realize that she is bloody covered in scars. Along her legs and shoulders, where there are no protective scales, she has some really nasty looking wounds, and the part of her back that isn’t similarly protected is criss-crossed with them. There’s even one on her face, trailing from her right jaw up onto her chin.
When Jackal assumes her beast form, she can best be described as a “furry crow bat dragon”, and also none of those things. All of her animal traits suddenly become hugely realized, with massive bladed wings, a huge tail, a terrifying face with big read eyes and a cruel beak, and a body covered by both fur and scales. She tries to avoid using this form in polite company.
WEAPONS,
Jackal uses no weapons but the ones nature gave her.
Fortunately, nature gave her a crapton. She has dagger-sharp teeth, wicked claws, blades extending from the wings on her arms, and a tail that ends in hardened, wicked bone.
Also she can set shit on fire, but more on that later.
ITEMS,
Jackal carries very little about her person, except a pouch of water and an old, tattered travellers’ cloak that covers her entire body, for whenever she needs to enter a city without drawing suspicion. Anything else she needs she typically hunts or gathers.
ABILITIES,
Shadowfire[/i]]
Interestingly, Jackal can actually use Shadowfire without first gathering shadows, but doing so is extremely dangerous, and referred to as “Mad Shadowfire”. Instead of being able to target with her Shadowfire, Mad Shadowfire will instead do a single level of moderate damage to all characters, including herself. Then, at the end of every turn, each player will take another level of moderate magical damage, and Jackal herself will take heavy magical damage. She cannot do this if Shadowfire has recently been used “normally”, and doing this causes her normal access to Shadowfire to shut down permanently. Mad Shadowfire will burn until Jackal’s KO, which is more or less assured to be imminent since the heavy damage she receives comes from her own shadow. [The Mad Shadowfire bit there is really only for flavour and RPing purposes, and isn’t intended to be used in battle, particularly since it’s suicidal. If, however, you guys would feel more comfortable with it taken out, I understand.][/ul]
BAD. ASS.

RACIAL ABILITIES,
Minish Dominance - ShapeshiftingNight Dragon Form: Jackal can turn into a strange creature that doesn’t seem to have much biological precedent, but she refers to as a Night Dragon. In this form, her physical attacks do an extra level of damage (large animal form boost). She can only stay as a Night Dragon for three posts, however, before she must cooldown for three more posts.
Invisibility: The Minish temporarily turns invisible, meaning the enemy cannot target them in the next turn; if they find themselves in an area-of-effect attack, they are still vulnerable, however. Meanwhile, a physical attack used while Invisible deals more damage than usual (an extra level of damage). Invisibility only lasts for one turn, and has a cooldown of five posts.
HISTORY,
For the earlier part of the girl who became Jackal’s young life, she was named Shayu. She was the younger sister of Rwaht Orin, and they lived happily for a long time. She was a very shy girl, who found it hard to get out of her house, let alone play with other children. Shayu idolized her brother, and even though his efforts to try and help her find some friends were often poorly planned and more than a little misguided, she loved him fiercely for how he tried so diligently. Especially as a child, Shayu had an apparently infinite capacity for compassion and forgiveness.
When she was nine and her brother was twelve, however, while practicing with their powers, they accidentally burned down their home and their land. Shayu was mauled by a wolf, and while her brother tried his best to save their parents and protect her, he wound up accomplishing neither. Shayu didn’t blame him. She didn’t even blame the wolf. Nor did she blame herself. As far as Shayu was concerned, it had just been a round of tragic luck, but no matter how much she cried or assigned blame, nothing would ever change. That was the day that the girl named Shayu began her journey towards the survivor named Jackal.
In Castle Town, Shayu stole food to survive, though her brother refused any of it. Desperate and nearly starving to death, she took to begging in the street, asking Hylian Knights for help, anything, but no one helped. No one, that is, except an old Goron blacksmith who saw the young girl in the street. At first he thought he would just help them join an orphanage, but he found Shayu to be engaging and likeable, and could not bring himself to ignore a boy who was as sad as Rwaht. He taught both of them in the only arts he knew: smithing and swordplay. Shayu didn’t take particularly well to the swordplay, though her brother proved an uncanny talent at it.
However, that was the time when things went from bad to worse. Mainly, because of puberty.
See, up until then, Shayu had been just an ordinary girl. She had bluish hair and bright red eyes, sure, but no one looked too closely at her. However, when she started to reach adulthood, she started to grow a few unwelcome things. Like fur. Her eyes began to glow. Her teeth sharpened. She grew claws. And, by the time she was 16, parts of her skin had hardened into plated scales, and—in what was an extremely painful few months—she grew a pair of wings/blades on her forearms and had a big, heavy tail shoot out her butt. After all that the catlike ears didn’t really seem so bad. While this was going on, of course, she began to become regarded as more and more of a freak. The glowing eyes in particular seemed to bother people, and eventually she found that she was better suited to nighttime than the day. Not that she didn’t like the day; but she could see well in the dark, and people didn’t stare, then.
Of course, as she grew, so too did her powers, and her measure of control over them. While Rwaht became a promising young member of the Hylian Knights, Shayu took the name of Jackal and became a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals in the dark of night and bringing them, often to her brother, to answer for their crimes. It was during one night when everything went horribly wrong. While she was chasing down a bounty target, Jackal was led into the darker section of Castle Town, searching for him. By then, she had become somewhat well known for her powers of shadowfire, and was hoping to intimidate the target into acquiescing. In the fight, she chased the target down through the alleyways, using carefully controlled shadowfire. She had long ago learned not to let her powers get out of her control. The target, however, a notorious, bloodthirsty criminal, smashed an oil lantern against the walls of an orphanage. The criminal escaped, while Jackal tried to enter the house to save the children. The fire grew out of control, however, and only her powers saved her life. In the fallout of the incident, Jackal was blamed, and was forced to flee.
Having no idea where to turn, Jackal began to prowl the wilds in Hyrule, from Hyrule Field to Faron Forest to the Gerudo Desert. She found she was extremely adaptable, and with her ability to turn into a great, nightmarish dragon, could fight off any threats the wilderness presented. For years, she has survived on her own, only entering civilization when necessary, or whenever she wanted to see her brother. She didn’t know if he’d trust her again, after of what she’d been accused of, so while she’s seen him several times since he’s last seen her, he’s never known.
EXTRAS,
Y’know how most Minish characters have these really cute meows and nyahs? Jackal has a series of clicks, shrieks, and hisses. She tries so hard not to make those noises but when she’s surprised, alarmed, or injured, that doesn’t work out so well.
