APPEARANCE,
Riku is a teenage male of average height for a human in his human form. He has a very thin build without much muscle development. His Oocca-common straight face and hard brown eyes are topped by a bob of uncommon blue hair in rounded curls.
To hide his less than intimidating physique Riku has taken to wearing layers of clothing(Though only puffy, light ones rather than thick, heavy ones to avoid excess weight on his frail frame). Short dark-blue pants made of feathery material give an illusion of bulk to the Hybrid's upper legs while his knees are protected by thick leather pads and his feet are hidden in large light blue shoes. The man's forearms are covered in purple gauntlets and blue fingerless gloves, along with leather elbow pads. Riku's upper body has no less than three layers: a short-sleeved blue shirt with stripes covered in a protective leather vest and a very light brown cloak than hangs mostly over his back.
The cloak often hides Riku's identifying birth defect: The fact that he has only a single grey-feathered wing on his right side and no matching appendage on his left.
WEAPONS,
Shortsword A very basic sword with a wooden handle and a short blade, held in a scabbard on Riku's back beneath his cloak.
ITEMS,
Item Pouch A leather bag on the back of Riku's belt, hidden beneath his cloak most of the time. He keeps all his items in here.
Glass Bottles Riku carries 4 small bottles with him at all times.
Drinking Water The contents of Riku's bottles. Any that are emptied will always be refilled with some drinkable liquid as soon as possible from any available source.
Double Clawshot Without the ability to fly and no bird form to make travel easier in the City in the Sky Riku had to make use of some of the clawshots the Ooocca had invented for getting around. The two handheld mechanisms both fire a three-pronged open hook from a chain that extends up to ten meters. Upon impact the claw locks down and if it was able to grip something it either pulls it back to the user or pulls the handle and one holding it to the grip point. With his hollow bones Riku is rarely pulling anything to him unless it is very small.
Hylian Knight Equipment All magical damage the Hylian receives when wearing his armor is decreased by one level. The armour also decreases damage dealt by Darkness or Shadow magic by an additional half a level. Any light-based magic attack is increased by half a level in damage.
ABILITIES,
Hydration Riku has an unfortunate condition that causes him to lose water and dry out quickly. This is usually warded off simply by drinking a lot of water, but it is different when he must take up arms and fight. The exertion of combat causes Riku to perspire, making him lose hydration even faster. Every time Riku fights he must battle against a fickle time limit.
Hydro Counters: Riku begins any battle with 6 Hydro Counters, which is the most he can have. At the end of each of his turns his counters will decrease by 1. If Riku ever has 0 Hydro Counters his condition will immediately drop to Critical if it wasn't already and he becomes unable to attack or activate abilities. Riku's Hydro Counters will be increased to full if he spends 1 Action Point to take a drink, either from his bottles of water or an alternate available source, such as a spring. If it is raining or his environment is filled with spraying water in some equivalent then Riku can drink freely while doing other actions, allowing him to recover 1 Hydro Counter at the beginning of every turn. [Passive]
Nimble Swordsman Riku hasn't the build or the power to take foes down with mighty sword strikes. His best chances of survival lie in using his light body, which grants nimble movements and easily high jumps, to strike with light but precise blows in large numbers, wearing down an enemy over time. Though he knows this, Riku also knows that such tactics are basically suicide for one who fights every battle on a time limit before he dries out and becomes incapable of action. Made worse is the fact that the most strenuous techniques he can use to harm foes and shorten the time of battle will also cause him to sweat more, shortening his own time left to fight simultaneously. Despite this paradox Riku's aim with a bow is terrible, he has shown no ability in magic, and he has no talent for Spatial Science beyond the basics most Oocca can do in their sleep(Which he also struggled to learn). Without any options left to fight for what he loves Riku must take up the sword and walk the razor's edge between life and death with each encounter.
Staggering Swordplay: Using his light body Riku performs a stabbing thrust with his sword that can literally throw him from out of range into a target, either on land or in the air. This stabbing blow may not cause any extravagant harm on contact but its true purpose is to distort an enemy's balance from the impact. Immediately after landing the blow Riku pushes himself upward with the sword or with a small hop and, raising his weapon over his head, performs a hard somersault. This second spinning blow, typically aimed at the head when possible, is meant to cause real harm while also completely knocking the target down and/or off-balance while Riku lands out of his flip on the ground before them. Enemies struck by this second blow will need to spend 1 Action Point next turn to reorient themselves. If used on an enemy in the air the target will be hurt after the second blow by their crash into the ground below, unless of course it is exceptionally soft or liquid.
Staggering Swordplay consumes 2 Hydro Counters when used. [2 Action Slots, Low + Moderate + Possible Low Damage, 0 Turn Cooldown]
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Human Form Oocca have the ability to change from their small, natural birdlike forms into winged humanoid bodies at will. For Riku this choice is taken away and he remains in human form at all times.
Hollow Bones Riku's hollow bones make him very light, so he is fairly easy to throw around. This bodily structure also limits Riku's maximum natural health capacity to Near Perfect. Normally these special bones would be for the purposes of granting flight and an additional movement ability to the Oocca in combat, but with only one wing this Hybrid must take the bad without the good.
Spatial Science With his Oocca-dominant blood and upbringing Riku is privy to the race's mysterious abilities of spatial manipulation.
Teleport: Riku can teleport, moving himself in-range, out-of-range, or without changing range; either way, the act of teleporting avoids one physical or magical attack. [1 Action Slot, No Damage, 3 Turn Cooldown]
Weak Telekinesis: This power can send force directly into an opponent or control the movements of a small object. It can also block a physical projectile that would deal up to moderate damage. Shares a cooldown with all Telekinesis Racial Abilities. [1 Action Slot, Moderate Damage, 1 Turn Cooldown]
Moderate Telekinesis: This power can send force directly into an opponent or control the movements of a large object. It can also block a physical projectile that would deal up to heavy damage. Shares a cooldown with all Telekinesis Racial Abilities. [1 Action Slot, Heavy Damage, 1 Turn Cooldown]
Strong Telekinesis: This power can send force directly into an opponent or divide it's strength between up to three targets. It can control the movements of a large object or up to three small objects. It can also block a physical projectile that would deal up to massive damage or up to three projectiles that would deal moderate damage. Shares a cooldown with all Telekinesis Racial Abilities. [2 Action Slots, Massive Damage, 2 Turn Cooldown]
HISTORY,
The firstborn of an Oocca woman, Riku was born with more than one condition that would make life difficult for him from that day on. The most visibly noticeable was that he had only one angelic wing on his infant humanoid back. It was known right away that he would never fly naturally. The second wasn't immediately seen but became apparent very quickly when Riku almost didn't survive his infancy. A small baby already, Riku was not healthy at all and spent a long time on the edge of death. It was eventually deduced that Riku had a condition that caused him to lose hydration quickly. To survive he would need to drink almost twice as much as expected. Some ignorant folks blamed this condition on his half-Zoran heritage, but many other Hybrids had shown no such traits. Riku, it seemed, was just a very unfortunate child. The last condition to be discovered was Riku's inability to shift into the Oocca's natural birdlike form, which some said was due his mother remaining in her human shape while carrying him, but in truth just seemed to be part of his tremendous bad luck. Whatever the reason, living in the City in the Sky was incredibly difficult for the child as he grew up.
After sixteen years of this it was decided that Riku's place simply wasn't among the Oocca. He wasn't exiled for being a Hybrid or anything overly dramatic. Riku found living with his family very difficult and on the occasions he had travelled with them down to Hyrule he had done better where simply walking was enough to get around. That doesn't even mention the rain. Oh, that was quite the revelation. His home was too high to experience direct rainfall like the land below. For Riku being drenched in rainfall and drinking in the constant drops was the most satisfying feeling he'd ever had. It was even unexpected, as he hadn't felt that way the one time he'd tried and miserably failed at swimming(Hollow bones and a heavy feathery wing, even if only one, weren't conductive to getting through water the way he wanted to). As it was, once he was considered old enough, Riku simply agreed to leave the City in the Sky behind and live on the land for the rest of his life.
He left behind a younger sister and a younger brother, both full Oocca, who he ahd never been able to watch out for or protect the way he wanted to. Riku's mother couldn't afford to live below with him since there were two younger chidlren to raise. Living with his father was out of the question as well. Despite the cracks some folks made about his hydration condition being caused by his heritage, Riku wasn't a Zora nor did he have any Zora traits. Zora's Domain was no place for him.
The lad made his way as best he could, getting what work he was able with his weak body and learning the basics of self defence for his travels. Being so frail combat against Hyrule's wildlife was always avoided as much as possible, of course. The teen's greatest turning point came when he was attacked by a group of Bulblins hoping to raid the merchant cart he was serving as an assistant with. Unlike other times when he had encountered monsters Riku didn't have to fight against terror in his heart, because this time the sky was filled with clouds pouring down water over Hyrule Field. Literally drunk on a feeling of invincibility, which in truth was simply the feeling most people have every day of not being dried out, Riku bravely fended off the goblins with his sword. His rashness must have tricked the leaderless band into thinking he was more impressive than he really was for they quickly decided the attack wasn't worth the effort and ran. By the time Riku's rush of victory(A rare feeling for him) wore off one of the two owners of the wagon had already fallen to an arrow and been dead for several minutes. Riku realized then that he wasn't better off when it rained, just too relieved of his usual afflictions to pay attention. The loss reminded him of his younger siblings back in the sky and how he could so easily lose them if they had ever needed to rely on him... not that they ever had.
No one ever had.
Riku hated that. He wanted it to change. He had a family that meant everything to him and had also met a lot of people in Hyrule that he had learned to love. He had been taken care of as a delicate, weak thing for his entire life. Now, more than ever before, Riku's protectiveness as a big brother kicked in. He wanted to be able to protect people and inspire hope. He wanted to make others feel safe the way they had always gone through so much trouble to keep him safe.
He didn't need to be the strongest man in the world, but he wanted to be strong enough for that.
EXTRAS,
Riku was named so because he cannot fly in the sky of his mother nor swim in the sea of his father, but is forced to walk upon the land.
