Volkin had not meant to go into the woods but when he'd seen something that had looked like his mother dash inside he could not help himself but go running in. Now, however, he had lost the scent and was fairly certain that he had seen something else entirely and been sidetracked by wishful thinking.
Now, having not paid enough attention to where he was going when he'd entered, Volkin was in his weasel form and trying to scamper his way out without attracting the attention of too many predators. The advantages of his current form were simple enough, it was faster and he could smell better to try and pick up his old trail.
It had been only an hour since he'd entered the forest but at this point he was completely and helplessly lost but still far too stubborn to call anybody on his crew to come and fish him out.

Voletta walked around, her book as a backpack. She was hopelessly lost. Not that she'd admit it. She had dropped her book from the tree she used as a bed, and came down to get it. However, a large mob of Black Boes were attracted to the sound, and started to attack her. She fled out of her usual path, leading to now. Sighing, Voletta looked around. In the corner of her eye, she spotted a weasel. Well, that's weird. She doesn't see weasels in this forest often. Crouching down, she picked up the weasel carefully, examining it. It appeared to be a He. A Minish, maybe?

Volkin heard the Kokiri coming down the path and cocked his head to the side in confusion. He didn't know what sort of people normally inhabited these woods but he had not expected this. Granted he'd only met one of her kind before and that one had been a traveler. It was while he was wondering where Kokiri were from that she picked him up off of the ground.
He tilted his head to the side and went to say hello before remembering that he could not in this form. Instead all that came out was a little squeak-ish growly sort of noise. He looked her over briefly before sniffing at her hands curiously. She seemed harmless enough.

Voletta looked around. She sat on a nearby rock, setting the weasel on her lap. Surely, this was a Minish. Weasels just don't come around these parts for fun. She took off her book, placing it next to her. Using her peripheral vision, she analyzed the area for any enemies that could've followed her. Once reassured that everything most likely gave up, she sighed in relief.
Are you a Minish?

Volkin curled up in her lap. Sure, he could transform back into his human form but why would he want to do a thing like that when he could snuggle up warm and cozy in this one? He looked up to her when she asked her question and nodded. Had he not been a Minish it would have likely been a strange sight to see for a weasel to nod in such a way.
Once he answered the question he put his head back down and rolled over onto his back, snuggling down into a comfortable position and kicking his legs at the air. Had anyone he knew seen him at this point he would have likely never heard the end of it but for now he was just plain comfy.

Voletta sighed, looking up at trees. Rays of light shone through openings in the leaves. Only sounds of insects and birds flying about, along with nearby waters flowing in streams. It was peaceful. She relaxed, releasing the tension in her muscles and closing her eyes. If only it were like this more often. She looked down at the small animal on her lap. He nodded as a reply to her question, then snuggled closer for a more comfy position. It gave her memories of her more active childhood, before she lived in the woods. Voletta began to hum a slow, soft lullaby, one that her forgotten mother taught her.
The leaves seemed to dance with the wind, with her song. The sounds of the forest flowed together with her humming, she couldn't help but smile. It brought back memories of happier times, now lost within the depths of the woods. Only Voletta truly remembered these times.

He lifted his head as she started to hum. There was something bittersweet in the sound and while listening he could not help but think of the family that had been taken from him. Volkin rolled over onto his stomach before scampering up her arm and coming to rest around her shoulders.
His spirits lifted, although only somewhat, as the leaves began to dance and the forest seemed to come alive. Although he had never been here, it reminded him somewhat of the forests of his own childhood. Volkin snuggled in closer to her neck. The thought had never crossed his mind that she was a complete stranger. For now they were just two lost young people.

Voletta paused her song for a moment, feeling something climb up her arm. Oh, it was just the weasel, now snuggling into her neck. Chuckling, she continued to hum the small tune, the forest and creatures as her audience. The branches moved with the soothing melody, swinging side to side in a rhythmic manner.
Voletta could only think if this weasel could relate to her in any way. Could this minish be without parents? Without brothers or sisters? Did he have a peaceful, enjoyable life, before something changed everything? Most likely not, but it was worth a shot. Once her song ended, she paused a bit, staring at her lap, before finally speaking up.
Tell me, minish. Are you an orphan?

Volkin recoiled at the question and seemed to be surprised by the suddenness of it. He looked away from her and thought about it for a moment. Volkin knew that his father was gone but he had never found his mother and though he had not seen her in weeks it was possible that she was still alive somewhere.
He looked to the girl and let out a sigh. Was he an orphan? He really wasn't sure but for the time being he sure felt like it. Volkin hesitated for a moment before nodding and laying his head back down on her shoulder with his eyes raised to watch her.

Voletta silently awaited an answer, before remembering that this was not a person, but a weasel. If only he could talk. Seeing a nod, she lifted her head, a neutral expression now pasted on her face. She didn't want to give the guy bad memories or anything of the sort, but she was curious. She took in a deep breath, and slowly exhaled.
Have you become one recently?

By this point he was grateful to be in his animal form. It made it harder to communicate if she didn't ask the right questions but at the same time he would not start crying in front of a complete stranger. Even if she was a kid, it would still be something of an embarrassment to him.
Volkin just nodded grimly at her question and slid down into her lap once more. It had only been a few weeks prior that he had buried his father after a night of searching by Lake Hylia. By then his mother had been nowhere to be found and to this point he still had not heard anything of her whereabouts.

I'm just going to guess...I may be completely off the mark, but are you in any way searching for one of your parents?
Voletta bit her tongue. It was a secret, where her father was. He had hidden herself, just for her to find. If this weasel is really looking for one of his parents, they could relate a bit. Of course, his situation could always be worse. She didn't know. He was just a weasel.
Well, at the moment.

Volkin closed his eyes and took a deep breath before hopping off of her lap and onto the ground beside her. Within moments he had returned to his human form. He stretched himself out a bit, pulling his arms behind his back and stretching outward for a moment to get used to his bigger shape again.
"I lost my father recently. He was killed by some predators the night a piece of the city in the sky fell. I have not been able to find my mother since then and do not know if she is dead or alive." He considered mentioning that he thought he'd seen her run into the forest but he held his tongue. He was already getting more personal than he would have liked but when one meets someone that they have much in common with it is hard not to share.
"I take it that you have been through something like this?" He looked up at her curiously before holding out a hand. "I'm Volkin."

Yes...Somewhat. Your situation sounds a tad bit more drastic. Name's Voletta.
Voletta gently grasped the man's hand with both of hers, her tiny hands not even able to cover all of it. Slowly shaking the hand up and down, she let go, her arms falling to her sides. She scratched her head, pondering how she should explain her situation. It was much different, yet a bit similar at the same time.
My mother doesn't know of me anymore, and my father is hiding from me. I don't intend to try and get my mom's memory of me back, she's perfectly happy with her new, adopted child. I do not wish to spend my time searching for my father, either. Instead, we shall cross paths, and talk about the adventure we've gone through in the past 7 years. He'll be doing most of the talking, though.
Voletta shocked herself a bit by how much she had said. SHe didn't regret it, though. Words flowed more easily to her when talking about this subject.
