Mariana
The Sky is my Sea
RACE,Oocca/Human (Oocca Dominant)
GENDER,Female
BATTLE ROLE,Range DPS
BATTLE STYLE,Casual
AGE,17
ALLIANCE,Oocca - Kokiri - Fairies
PERSONALITY,Positive
- Though more out of a kind-hearted sense of pity, Mariana tends to be helpful to those around her. Frequently comes to those in distress and has no limitations on who she may help, be they children or kings.
- Very creative, Mariana tends to flourish with inspiration when the need arises. Ideas come quickly but sometimes these ideas can be a gnats too far out of reach.
- Active too, she spends little time rooted on one spot and is almost always moving. She gets things done and has little time for relaxation and rest, which tends to rub off on those around her... if it doesn't, she generally makes it rub off.
- She's also positive most of the time, which seems to act as a contributing factor to all her aspects and gives her a good bedside manner, as well as making her a brighter spark during the darker moments.
- Finally, despite the difficulties in actually becoming a friend of hers, she can be very loyal as one, generally lending her knowledge and ideas to her comrades if she trusts them enough, but she will never stab a man in the back.
Negative
- Unfortunately, Mariana looks down on the lifestyles that the earthborn races lead and tends to shun their ideas and technologies as quaint and pathetic. Despite the positive tone she takes, she comes off as patronising, seeing her own knowledge above others.
- This also makes her antisocial and a little difficult to approach. Only people of great intelligence or agility seem able to enter her circle of friends, through either philosophical or technological debate or keeping up with her during one of her few runs across rooftops.
- Somewhat mischievous too, her rooftop running and experimentation tends to involve the public around her, usually deliberately. This causes problems... many problems. None ever threatening but always annoying.
- She's very proud of her heritage and isn't afraid to flaunt it. Whenever she's casually moving through town, she will show off by either climbing something tall with ease or spreading her wings to full length, which has tendency to whack a few people...
- Finally, she is easily resentful of warriors or nobles. Though this is in part thanks to her upbringing, those who tend to lord over her with power rather than wit will land up in her bad books. If you're stronger, she wont pay attention.
APPEARANCE,
a picture for your convenience [/color]
Tall, with an athletic build and an above-average bust, Mariana takes more from her human mother than she does her Ooccan father. Her red hair and blue eyes are also a credit to this fact, but her style of dress is somewhat less modest than her mothers. She wears a short red top with gold trim and a sideless red dress of similar style, accompanying it with long thigh-high black flat-soled boots.
She'll usually wear a black cloak and her goggles to alter her image to one of an inventor rather than the wife of a noble. She wears her hair inside two 'bun' like formations of cloth, letting numerous strands of hair loose to give off a pigtail style. Seen often in public without her cloak, Mariana will more likely than not have her wings on full display, occasionally spreading them for people to see in a show of pride. Her Bowcannon is held on a sling with a clasp at the back which is easily detachable. She claims her clothing style is a credit to her profession and her hobby.
WEAPONS,
- Bowcannon: ”A wonderful creation that I spent my first two earthbound years perfecting. It's quite simply a rather specialized and large crossbow which is capable of launching more than just boring old arrows. Bombs, seeds, ballista bolts or even magical projectiles can be launched by this weapon... well, one day, anyway. I still need to make more adjustments. What's more, it's made from a special wood from the City in the Sky, that is incredibly light, so I wont be encumbered while wielding it. For practicalities sake though, it's best to carry with two hands and keep a steady posture before firing because the recoil may cause problems. Finally, I devised the perfect carrying method for a large weapon such as this. Many of the parts are capable of folding in or over each other, creating what the uneducated would call “a lump of wood”....”
- Shortsword: ”It's a sword. Do I need to explain it to you? It's just a backup until I can improve the Bowcannon. Which is far more important, by the way. Stop reading this and go read about that.”
ITEMS,
- Bolts: A steady supply of bolts carried for the Bowcannon. Though easily crafted and with reasonable piercing power, a missed shot cannot be recovered, nor can they travel at a high velocity either. Basic ammo.
ABILITIES,
- Bowcannon Blaster: Utilizing a special mechanism stored above the stock, ammunition from the bowcannon can be fired explosively. The bow must be notched back further before firing. This gives bolts and other ammunition an extra kick, but the blaster mechanism requires a cooldown before being utilized again. - (1 post cooldown, can't be used in tandem with the Bowcannon MK1 mechanism)
- Bowcannon MK1: The first version of the Bowcannon, it is capable of charging bolts with magic before firing them off. The bolt is essentially completely magical now, so no physical damage is dealt upon impact. The charging mechanism is shared with the Blaster mechanism so both can't be used simultaneously and also requires a cooldown before utilizing. - (1 post cooldown, can't be used in tandem with Blaster)
- That one slot that Ooccan's get for their flying ability.

- Telekinesis
HISTORY,
Born to a womanising ooccan bachelor and a naïve seamstress, after her birth, Mariana had no contact with her father, who'd already returned to his home above the clouds. Her early childhood was spent on the ground, with her mother, where she learnt much about the earth and grew some degree of appreciation for the things around her. Unluckily for her mother, she was constantly asking about where her father was. At about the age of 7, Mariana became far more demanding about this matter and soon the mother was forced to take her to the homeplace of her father. Despite the expected bad blood between the parents, it was here that Mariana discovered her nature as a hybrid of the land.
The mother despised the idea of her delving into her Ooccan roots but the father took delight in the fact that his child was intrigued. Forced by the child to stay in the skies, the parents typically eluded each others presence while the child took on Ooccan education. Though she was seen as different and lo, suffered the cliché bullying, this only spurred her on to surpass her peers and soon, her superiors. She became very secluded, sticking to books and workshops. She began to blossom in Ooccan science around the age of 13, where she constructed a miniature model of a sliding door mechanism.
At the insistence of her ever wearying mother, Mariana was forced out into the skies to make friends, but by this time, Mariana had developed a subtle superiority complex. Her utter dedication to knowledge and technology made her near impossible for children to get along with, so Mariana found a new hobby – climbing around the Dungeon. She never ventured too far, but built up quite a degree of fondness for the hobby (which we would likely call free-running), she spent her time outdoors in the Dungeon. Having eventually lost contact with her father, Mariana became even more condescending to the people around her. She became bossy and cocky about many of her projects being a success but being turned down by her peers due to the animosity towards her ideals.
She had one major idea in mind. As she grew up in Ooccan society, and soon developed her wings, she noticed her mother was not the same as her. She soon began terming her mother as Earthbound, and gained a strangely positive idea. She wanted to create something that would help the Earthbound ones get into the sky and fly. The Ooccan society rejected such an idea, seeing it as purile but Mariana was determined to make it work... if not in the City in the Sky, then in the city below. Mother and daughter soon returned home to Hyrule, much to the former's delight. Elated to see her daughter seemingly willing to help the earthbound races, she agreed to allow Mariana to use her mothers shop as a workshop for her future inventions.
She had far better luck obtaining the resources she needed, and she slowly began to learn of ancient artefacts that, to her, would be useful tools for construction purposes. For her first two years on Hyrule since her childhood, Mariana spent them constructing her personal weapon, the Bowcannon, so that she might one day travel out into Hyrule and obtain some of these treasures. It was also here she gained intense resentment of warriors, and pity for other races such as the Kokiri or Fairies. She continues her hobby of running about the rooftops and the unfortunate citizens who live near to her are forced to endure her crashing and bashing as she works on new ideas. Some see her as insufferable, others enjoy her help and are willing to test some of her devices out.
EXTRAS,
Originally designed to be something of a comedy character, I felt more inclined to make a technology-pushing inventor-type philosophical character. I don't know who'd be interested in knowing that fact but I didn't want to leave this empty.
