Thoven had come to Kakariko to restock his supplies. After his adventures trying to augment his magic, he had run out of food. Kakariko was smaller, he was less likely to be ridiculed for his failures in life. Despite the long adventure, his clothing seemed like new, thanks to his mend spell. It was almost useless, but at least his urine-colored robe always looked pristine.
He entered the market looking for some fresh fish. Just something he could have with his milk.

Rayleigh zooms into town carrying a large sack. Before his real adventures can begin, Ray figures he would do a couple of odd-jobs around home for some traveling money. That and he just likes lending a helping hand to people. As he makes his way through town he slows into a jog until he hits the fish market and steps inside.
"Hey Ron, I'm here with the new batch." he shouts to the clerk. He drops the sack which is actually a net full of fish. "Good thing I'm so fast cuz there were some hungry eagles following after me. I just- " Rayleigh sees another man in a gold robe. Being a native from Kakariko Rayleigh can easily tell who's a traveler and this guy definitely didn't look from here. "Well hello friend, hope I wasn't interrupting you."

Thoven turned to see the unfamiliar face carrying a large sack. What was in the sack was given away by the smell. At least now he knew how fresh the fish was going to be. That was a good sign.
"Hi. You're ok, I was just here purchasing some fish. I guess I came in on time." He was always a bit nervous around new people, and he tipped his hat downward to hide his nervous eyes. He began to look at the fish, eyeing the good and the bad ones. "Is this the catch of the day?"

Rayleigh smiles at the man in bright yellow outfit. Rayleigh couldn't help but wonder will people go blind if this guy walks by on a bright sunny day. Either way he appreciates the nice greeting. " Yes you are. Fresh from Lake Hylia. There would be more but first off I'm not that good of a fisherman and second I can only carry so much. I'm surprised I got this much. Must be my lucky day." he says with a friendly grin trying to make the banana colored feel welcome.
Now that he wasn't dashing across the plains anymore Ray couldn't help but notice the smell of the fish now. he holds up his vest to his face and could tell some of the smell caught onto him. He makes a note to visit the hot springs later. He picks up the sack again and drops it on the counter. Then he looks back at the new guy. "So friend, what brings you here to Kakariko? I'm Rayleigh by the way."

Thoven didn't look Rayleigh in the eye. Instead he focused on the fish, trying to pick out some good ones from the batch. "Thoven. I came for a restock. It's easier to come here than castle town market, even if the prices are a bit higher here." Competition drove the prices down in the market, but Thoven had his reasons for not going there. Personal reasons.
He pulled out his grimoire and began flipping through the pages. "I think I can alleviate the smell. Give me a moment." He found the page he was looking and began to enchant the room, waving his arm around until the room smelled like dead fish and rotting corpses. He calmly put away the grimoire and kicked the dirt, obviously having screwed the spell up, the smell was now worse.

Maybe it was the bright yellow outfit but Rayleigh couldn't help but find Thoven quite strange. "Really, you came here instead?" While Ray loves hanging around his hometown he couldn't understand passing chance to go to Castle town to come here. To him, Castle Town was the place to be. Home to the brave knights and palidens that serve the country as well as the Royal Family. It was place you could make a name for yourself even as a mercenary.
Rayleigh cocks an eyebrow when he sees Thoven take out a book, saying he would fix the smell. Seeing the book come out made Rayleigh curious. That means Thoven was some kind of wizard who can do magic and cast spells. Rayleigh never had a chance to see magic up close so he is very eager to see something cool. Instead the air around him goes from smelling like dead fish to dead fish and dead bodies. Rayleigh swats his hand in front of his face to drive the smell away from his nose. "Don't think that was right." Ray says stating the obvious. "Care to try again?"

Instead of trying to fix the now horrific smell, Thoven put his tome away, defeated. Once again, he had been bested by the most basic spell. None of the spells he knew he could cast would help here, unless the smell made him thirsty. Instead, it made him gag.
Dejected, he left the market area, letting the smell waft away over time. He took a seat on one of the Kakariko benches, laying back and putting his hat over his face. He didn't even bother responding to the local, it didn't matter. He'd already screwed up once. He did notice, while his hat was on his face, that it had a small tear that he easily fixed to be good as new with a mend spell. At least that one he could cast perfectly, and from memory.

Rayleigh is now doing his best to keep from gagging and coughing up a lung. He honestly is hoping Thoven fixes his mistake so you can imagine his surprise when he sees the frustrated wizard storm out the market. Rayleigh steps out into the open air soon after. He takes a couple of deep breaths before giving a sigh of relief. "Not a fun experience, that was." Rayleigh proceeds to survey around himself trying to spot the golden spell-caster.
Which isn't too hard actually. He easily makes him out on a bench with others walking by. Rayleigh strolls on over to find Thoven's hat over his face. Even though he couldn't see his face, Ray got the the feeling that Thoven's pouting. "Um... you know you forgot your fish, right?" Rayleigh says hoping to get some kind of response or insight into what the man may be thinking.

Thoven didn't particularly care to converse with the man, but he initiated, so it was only fair that he respond.
"Yeah. I'll go pick it up once the smell dissipates" he said from under his hat. His voice did give the impression that he was bummed. It almost didn't seem fair, he couldn't cast a simple smell dissipation spell without causing awful side effects. But he wasn't in any mood to give up magic as a whole.
He now realized how thirsty he was. He placed his hat back on his head and took out an empty bottle from his sleeve. placing part of his hand in the bottle, he cast conjure milk into the bottle as milk sprayed from his hand. Having an endless supply of milk never hurt. He took a big swig of it, seemingly oblivious to the other person.

Rayleigh crouches to his feet, as he stares at Thoven. Listening to Thoven proved his theory. Thoven is pouting. Rayleigh scratches the back of his head as he attempts to think of something to cheer the guy up. In Ray's opinion the castor had nothing to really pout about. He made a mistake, it happens. It doesn't matter if you're a fighter or a wizard, eventually you're going to make a mistake.
Then Rayleigh gets a nice surprise. He watches Thoven take an empty bottle and make milk appear into the bottle. This intrigues Rayleigh all over again. He leans in staring at the bottle, "You make milk appear?" he says curiously and yet almost happy.

Thoven was at least a bit happy that his known spells were all functioning. He perked up with Rayleigh's curiosity and smiled a bit. "It's one of 3 known spells I have. Conjure Milk. It's a lot more versatile than it sounds. My other spells Mend and Vague aren't nearly as useful. Free healthy drink for life is actually pretty nice." He could talk about his magic all day. It was his life and passion, despite being horrendous at it. His skills helped him pay for shelter and food, but magic was what he loved.
He sighed again and went back to his moping about. Sure he could conjure milk perfectly, but what good was that if he couldn't cast a simple fire spell? Or a healing spell? He still felt like the worst wizard ever.

As Thoven explains the nature of his power, Ray stares at the half bottle of milk. Even though Rayleigh's human side is more dominant, there were moment's where his minish cat side would make a appearance like now as he sits crouch on the ground staring at the milk in Thoven's grasp. Luckily he's able to snap from the gaze before he pounces.
"Free milk for life would be fantastic! Almost makes me want to be a wizard." he agrees quite happily. Ray pulls a bottle out and holds it to Thoven. "Care to share?"

Thoven was never one to display his magical prowess to others. But at the same time, he just did, although not really for show. And who was he to deny free milk to a man, especially one who just brought in fish he would purchase.
Slowly he dipped his hand inside Ray's bottle and conjured milk. Filling the bottle about 3/4 of the way he removed his hand. "There you go. Problem is it doesn't come out cold, but I've gotten used to it. If you like your milk cold you should probably get it chilled somewhere." His hand retreating back into his sleeves. "Sorry again about the smell. It should dissipate soon. Then I can purchase those fish."

Rayleigh is a man with simple needs; adventure and milk. Since he is no prepared to go out an adventure he is very much happy with his bottle of milk. Sure it could use some ice to go along with it but Ray isn't going to complain. Ray is always happy to get whatever he he can. As he takes a gulp of the milk he listens to Thoven apologize again about the smell.
"Don't worry about it, everybody makes mistakes. I'm actually surprised you decided to wait it out. I heard wizards can do just about anything with just the flick of the wrist." Ryan says very cheerfully with his bottle of milk. "I mean you probably make this village smell like daisies and sunflowers." he says with a chuckle.

Thoven couldn't help but chuckle at the man's comments about wizards. Anything? Yeah, he wished. Thoven was a far cry away from being able to do anything.
"Well I do need the fish. It's a long trip to the Ordona Province and something has to hold me over. Fish provides the safest choice." He took a deep breath and exhaled. It was going to be a long trip, but one he had to make. But at least he was going to make it this time.
"I think you're overestimating the power of wizards. We only have enough spells as listed in our tomes, plus a few we can cast from memory. It's not really that impressive." He pulled out his tome just for show to give an example of a wizard's tome before putting it away and leaning back.
