Twili. A word synonymous with heathen. The blasphemy of it all; the Dark Interlopers venturing into the Light Realm, in unison with the disasters that descended on Hyrule. To Day, it meant one thing and one thing only.
The goddesses did not approve.
To make things worse, the idiot who called himself an Emperor not only kidnapped the Twili Sovereign, but then made an alliance with her... and it appeared that he was falling for her. It was ridiculous, enough to make Daystallion clench her fists to keep from trembling with rage. It was the Dark Interlopers who were making this world fall to pieces, and Nightmare Darklight, who claimed to want to repair relations with the other races, was accepting these heathens as his own.
How wonderful. The idiot Emperor would fall in love with the heretic Princess and they would have wonderful little moronic dragon-Twili children. Simply delightful.
Day's fury could not be contained. It was all she could to to keep her face blank as she stormed through the halls of her stupid liegelord's castle, blindly searching for something to take her anger out on without appearing to be rude. Even now, under extreme emotional stress, she was worried about being polite. Her mother truly drove the habit into her, she supposed.
It wasn't a bad thing, either. Sir Darklight couldn't keep his mouth shut or his temper in check around officials, and Day could swear on her life that he never learned the meaning of the word 'manners'. Such a man was not suited for the verbal warfare of politics. Perhaps Day was a bit naive, but she at least could keep her lips sealed and her head clear... most of the time. She certainly knew not to make alliances with a race that seemed out to destroy the world as they knew it.
Daystallion would make a much better Emperor than Nightmare. It wasn't arrogance (at least, not to her); it was a statement of fact. She didn't indulge in romantic follies. She knew right, and she knew wrong, and she believed to have the good grace to know which was which. The goddesses had blessed her with that much. And what Nightmare didn't seem to realize was that flirting with disaster -- Princess Midna -- was the worst thing he could have done.
Fine. He wanted to love the Twili Sovereign, be her knight in shining armor? Day would let him. She could do anything he could do, and with the advantage of his loved ones hanging over his head, she could triumph over him for once in her life.
She was feeling invincible tonight.

Bringing on the fury, the choir infantry Revolt against the honor to obey It's been a while since Midna had a chance to relax, and unwind her thoughts. Her scarlet eyes appeared with a soften gaze as she leaned her slender frame against the windowsill, the window open for her to peer out into the distance of the Emperor's homelands. The halls were eerily quiet as of late, but then again, since her arrival it didn't appear much different than before. Here and there, she could swear she heard shuffling going about within the hallways, but never really bothered to see if other monsters really did tend to the castle.
It was only a mere assumption... she wasn't entirely sure how things were run about here. Her robes flowing elegantly proportioning her figure nicely as her dazed glance stared out into the Black Lands. It certainly wasn't the most tranquil or beautiful scenery out there, but regardless of it's hostile atmosphere, it brought a sense of security within the sovereign's heart.
A place of acceptance. The marking point of becoming one step closer to finding that lost artifact of hers she's been desperately seeking out all of this time. When she tired of journeying throughout Hyrule, to escape the harsh light that she secretly covet. If only to know more about those who seemed friendly for the most part, she guessed. It was refreshing to have
Nightmare was the only one who stepped up, and insisted in proving he accepted her, if she would let him. It was rather difficult for her to swallow that such sincerity came out of the jackass who gave her a hard time the first time she met him. Though she supposed that in the end, with having such common grounds, a level of trust has been formed between them. It had only been solidified by the alliance made between the monsters and the twili. Now it was all a matter of time before he fell helplessly in love with her~ Perfect.
Her errant thoughts were quickly dissolved the moment she picked up the the sound of heels digging into the floor. The velocity behind the pace could be described as anything except friendly. Now who could that be? Midna assumed right off the bat it must have been Nightmare throwing a tantrum of sorts, storming back to his lair in a heat of fury. She was almost on the mark actually... however, the only thing that proved her wrong was that, it wasn't Nightmare Darklight that appeared. Carmine eyes flickered brightly as she turned her gaze over to a woman approaching. She nearly mistaken her for him for a split second, but then the details started to become more, and more obvious that this person was not the Emperor.
She seems in a hurry, she mused mentally. Another monster, eh? Silently, she stared at her, curious to see if she would notice the Twilight Princess leisurely sitting by the windowsill, or would she be blind in her apparent rage to see the blue-skinned woman there. Midna could see right through her calm demeanor, it was nothing short of a mask, another skin behind the emotions that laid true within her eyes.
"... so, where's the fire?" she couldn't resist.

Daystallion pulled up short at the sound of the Twilight Sovereign's voice, green eyes flashing for just a moment before she calmed herself. To be perfectly honest, in her rage she hadn't even noticed the blue-skinned woman. If Princess Midna hadn't called out, Day would have just passed her by, fuming in her head. But she had called out, and the idea she had begun formulating in her anger suddenly blossomed into a full-fledged plan. Now that Midna had so willingly placed herself in the Vanguard's path...
Never forgetting her manners, Day curtseyed to the woman before pulling out Excalibur, the holy blade glowing with a faint golden light as the strength within it was accessed. She held the longsword in a non-threatening manner, keeping the tip pointed towards the ground and the hilt in a loose grip in her hand. "Greetings, Highness," she said, her deadpan expression giving away nothing, her bright green eyes betraying everything. "I am Daystallion Lightdark, of Emperor Darklight's Vanguard. You are going to have to come with me. Please forgive me if I come off as rude, but you are my hostage now. Despite the blasphemy you have shown my goddesses, I have no wish to harm you if it is not necessary. Come with me quietly and there shall be no bloodshed."
As far as she was concerned, she had addressed the situation as quickly and bluntly as she could while still being polite about it. She had fibbed slightly, of course; she wanted nothing more than to strike the woman's head from her shoulders. But even in her anger she knew that such an action would not be feasible, if she wanted things to go as planned.

This fire and the desire Shots ringing out on a holy parasite "..."
Ok, let's quickly process exactly what that was about~ First off, she got a name, an eyebrow quirked up noticing the... well, you know, similarities this woman had in names with Dragon Emperor. Daystallion Lightdark, huh? Midna was quick to assume that with a blatantly knock-off name like hers, she would no doubt be of the same background as Nightmare. Another dragon. So this was one of the empire's mighty lieutenants~ Her scarlet eyes fixated themselves onto Day as she went through a brief gesture of formalities before getting straight to the point. For a second or two, she was amused. Her eyes quickly narrowed noticing her blade shimmering with a soft glow of white light. That gave a rather foreboding sensation crawling up and down her skin.
"... what?" her tone was more a long the lines of appalled than actual confusion. She wasn't serious, was she? Golden Goddesses, have mercy, the woman was serious. Midna was started grow tire of these dragons. What logic goes through their brain when they come up with ideas such as kidnapping her? Eyebrows furrowed slightly creating a slight 'v' shape as she shot a heated look at Day.
"Not to rain on your parade, but you're a little late with the kidnapping idea. Night beat you to it," she shrugged casually. Her expression quickly painted a wicked grin across her impish lips. "I'm all yours, hun... that is~ If you can take me."
Midna was not going down without a struggle. She couldn't have every single serpentine beasts come around trying to steal her. It just wasn't right! They've obviously haven't noticed that they're trying to steal the wrong princess to go for. Dammit~ These people were quite infuriating. Midna's raised her hand up, a small orange aura emitted from the palm of her hands before an exerted force was released from the palm of her hands.
Using her telekinesis, she cast a force push at Day, but it wasn't to intimidate. Nope, Midna cleverly leaned out of the window the second she sent the force push at Day, she tipped over the edge of the window, and began to plummet down to a dark descent. Let the chasing begin!

She was well aware that Nightmare Darklight had kidnapped Princess Midna. That was why she was here, so she could use the woman to make the moronic Emperor repent for his sins and step down from his throne. Despite knowing that there was no way that the Sovereign could know this, Daystallion couldn't help but resent her for resisting a greater cause... resent her more than she already did, anyway. But then, Twili in general were heathens. It was to be expected, she supposed.
She was somewhat amused at the Princess' challenge, even considering the severity of the situation. Of course she could take the woman. She was a dragon, and a dragon blessed by the goddesses at that. She could do anything she set her mind to.
She was invincible.
Day's invincibility, however, didn't stop her from staggering back a step at the telekinetic force, nor did it keep her eyes from widening as the Sovereign oh-so-neatly fell out the window. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Now she'd have a dead princess on her hands.
Though, all things considered, Princess Midna most likely wouldn't have willingly fallen out a window if there was no hope for salvation. Especially a heretic like her, who had no chance of gaining any place amongst the goddesses after her death. No, the woman had a trick up her sleeve, and Day would be there to see what it was.
Just a moment after the Princess' descent began, the dragon dove out the window after the woman, and her transformation began as soon as her plated feet cleared the confines of the hole in the wall. Human to dragon transformation truly was a pleasant experience; all of her power simply exploded out, and within a moment her leathery wings were beating at the sky, Excalibur gripped in her talons and her sharp green eyes scanning the expanse for the Twili Sovereign.

This fire and the desire Shots ringing out on a holy parasite It was quite clear that Daystallion didn't share the same interest as Nightmare did, especially as far as welcoming twili into the light realm, or even the alliance for that fact. Judging from her earlier comments as well, this dragon seems to have it in her head that she's some sort of holy warrior, doing justice in the name of the goddesses. She had to admit, she didn't quite expect to run into one of those types. Especially so early in her stay in Hyrule, however, that wasn't going to be her biggest problem. So what was it, you might ask?
Trying not to kill the dragon just in case Nightmare gets upset that she took out one of his vanguards. He did mention before dragons were extremely rare in the Light Realm so... did that mean they were endangered species? Oh well~ One dragon down won't cause the whole population to go in a flux now, would it? Midna didn't think so.
Slowly, her descent came to a halt, as she lifted herself right side up in midair before floating right back up. A fanged grin escaped from her lips as her arms extended out, her telekinetic powers extending out to anything she could grab within her range. Sharp, pointy things, or even a dagger from a nearby monster looming around the castle, something to use against the dragon that appeared out from the window, and came chasing after her.
A crack could be heard on a stoned statue of a large gargoyle, Midna took the horns off of the castle decorative, and floated out in eyesight within Day's range. It was the closest pair of ammo she could nab, but it'll work~ Each horn stood roughly about the same size as the twilit woman.
"Can I at least get a reason behind this? I seem to be missing the logic behind it," she inquired calmly, but a hint of sarcasm could be noted in her tone. Pointing the tips of the two stoned horns straight at the incoming dragon, Midna allowed them to fly like cannonballs out of a cannon straight at dragon Day~

So the Twilight Sovereign's telekinetic powers could be used on herself, too. Interesting. Either way, two puny projectiles such as the ones Princess Midna sent flying at the dragon wouldn't do much to deter her. Day was just so huge that even being stabbed in the but with one would be akin to being pricked with a needle in human form.
Still, Daystallion felt obliged to attempt to dodge the projectiles, so she allowed herself to drop a few feet and twisted so that her left side was facing Midna, and the gargoyle horns harmlessly grazed the scales of her left arm. Immediately afterwards, she twisted again, this time in a move not unlike DO a barrel roll. The blade fixed to her tail went lashing out at the woman, although even if it struck where Day intended, the princess would have no more than a gash of middling depth on her stomach. The dragon was not aiming to kill; she needed the Sovereign as a hostage.
"It is rather simple, Highness," she said, her deeper voice still deadpanned. "I need you so I can usurp the Emperor."

This fire and the desire Shots ringing out on a holy parasite Ok~ That was a mistake on her part. She intended to start out small, and warm herself up. However such underestimations lead to not only a nice scratch in the middle of her stomach, but also a bit of bruising on her pride. Luckily, she after she sent such projectiles at the dragon, she got a good idea as to what her move would be, but didn’t predict it to a tee. She moved backwards as quickly as she could to wedge a bigger distance between them, but it proved not enough to avoid the entire impact of the damage. A much shallower gash was found after the blade cut into her skin than what Day intended.
Nonetheless, Midna felt it, and that shit hurts! She backed away a couple meters before listening in to what fathomable reason this dragoness had for kidnapping her. An eyebrow quirked up at the mention of usurpation, and soon enough the pieces of the puzzle began to put themselves in the right places. “A foil,” she basically concluded, “A classic example of a foil. Nightmare’s opposite, I see. How pathetic!”
She cackled audibly. She got a kick out of this. On a side note, she had to admit, she’s never encountered such a cliché circumstance such as this. Yes, it was very interesting, but it still didn’t change the fact that she had a problem on her hands. Her arms were crossed as she floated in place, realizing a dominating trait about this girl’s drive: competition.
“Quite an underhanded for a holy dragoness to be doing, don’t you think?” she asked. Despite her hands being linked together under her chest, her eyes locked on the dragon, her telekinesis were still in motion. “Do you honestly think you can beat the Emperor with me as your hostage?” she mocked. The twilight princess didn’t think it would make much of a difference if Daystallion had one or not.
“I think you’re going to need more than your own powers alone to take him on. Personal opinion~”
Without even a sound, a stoned pillar could be found floating behind the mighty dragon. This time Midna picked up something a little bigger, taking up a good portion of Day’s size, to knock her down. A dark gleam could be found dancing within her eyes as she snapped her finger, and instantaneously the pillar swung back for an extra leverage then took a swing like a batter hitting a homerun. After all, Midna had nothing against the woman so there was no need to kill her~ All she had to do was knock her out, and detain her until Night gets back to bring forth appropriate punishment.
However… there seemed to be more going on than just two women getting in a cat fight. Midna speculated that this woman wouldn’t have engaged in battle without something more, involved with this ordeal.

Day had to admit, the woman had good reflexes... and a sharp tongue. Foil? What in the name of the goddesses was a foil? But when the princess described the dragon as the opposite of Nightmare Darklight, her self-control wound a little tighter, grew even closer to its breaking point. To be opposite, you had to be equal, and as the Emperor had flaunted again and again, he was superior to the Vanguard in all but manners... and politics, apparently. True, Daystallion had the strength of the goddesses behind her, but when it came right down to dragon versus dragon, Nightmare would beat her every time. But if she had a boost, something to dangle over the Emperor's head, then she could destroy him. She had to destroy him. It was the will of the goddesses.
Daystallion didn't deign to respond to the Sovereign's initial snide comment, but her next statement hit a sore spot in the Vanguard. "Underhanded? Perhaps," she said, her chin automatically jerking up as she justified herself in her mind. "But my methods hardly matter as long as the result is satisfactory. Even the holy must resort to trickery at one point or another."
Either the princess was dense, or Day hadn't explained herself well enough. The dragon thought that she had been perfectly clear in what she wanted, so she supposed the Midna was simply not the sharpest tool in the shed. But then, not everyone knew the things that Day knew.
What many didn't understand was that Day was everywhere. She knew everything about all of the goings-on at the Emperor's castle, and she had a knack for being in the right place at the right time when it came to important happenings that, perhaps, she hadn't been explicitly invited to. So yes, she knew that Nightmare had kidnapped the Twilight Sovereign, and yes, she was aware of the mild flirtation between the two. She knew of their bet; Nightmare would tell Princess Midna his real name if she could get him to fall in love with her.
Day got by simply by knowing things, and Day knew that Nightmare had taken a liking to Midna. Whether it was enough to rescue to the woman, well... she supposed she would figure that out when she got there. Either way, Nightmare and Midna were allies, and she knew that the Emperor wouldn't tolerate his ally being kidnapped. Even if he didn't come after her because of love, he'd certainly come after her on principle. She also knew (or, thought she knew) that with Midna present and, perhaps, in immediate danger that only Daystallion could prevent, Nightmare wouldn't dare go all-out. If he didn't go all out, then the Emperor and his Vanguard would be on even footing. He was strong, but she was fast, and she could heal. She would tire him out, strike when there was an opening, finish him off when she could.
As far as Day was concerned, it was an excellent plan.
However, she could hardly explain all this to Midna. It would take too long, and she had to get the princess under control and away from the castle as soon as she possibly could. In order to do that, she had to shut the woman up. To be perfectly honest, the twili was getting on her nerves, and she was prone to massive amounts of destruction when she was angry. Massive amounts of destruction that could kill the princess, which would be rather counter-productive to her plans. So, after a rather curt "I shall be quite alright, thank you," she returned her attention to the battle at hand, her wings rhythmically beating at the overcast sky.
Unfortunately, because she was mentally going over her plan in full, she failed to notice the rather large object floating behind her. In fact, she didn't even know it was there until it struck her in the upper body.
Despite the protection her scales provided, she felt her ribs crack (and one or two break) under the pressure, and even in the instant after the strike, she felt the beginnings of a bruise blooming beneath her skin. Inwardly, she was screaming in pain, but she showed nothing more than a flinch outwardly; she wasn't one to display the effects of attacks. Instead, she placed a taloned hand on the worst of the injuries, and a soft yellow light glowed beneath it as the wound began to heal. As she did that, she also gave a hard downbeat stroke of her wings to propel herself towards the princess, the claws on Day's right wing aiming to slash at the woman's torso.

It seemed she had underestimated the princess. As the dragon bounced back a fraction of a step and glared at the Twili, she considered that perhaps the blue-skinned heretic had been holding back, just as Day had been holding back. The Vanguard had no wish to kill the princess, and as she readied herself for her next attack, she vowed that she would continue to hold back, no matter what.
It was a vow she wouldn't be able to keep.
Daystallion visibly twitched when Midna called her goddesses pitiful, but still she maintained some semblance of composure. No matter what, she told herself, no matter what. Surely the goddesses would see the blasphemous remarks spewing out of the woman's mouth and judge her accordingly. It had to happen. It had to. Day's faith was strong; it always had been. She prayed every morning and every night, before and after battle, at every meal, every time her thoughts wandered to the deities above. She was devout. She was pious. Surely the goddesses would not abandon her in her time of need.
She took a deep breath, to calm herself. She couldn't lose it, now now. She had to be polite but firm, the very picture of an independent young woman.
Fate's design didn't incorporate your plans into its intricately woven fabric, I'm afraid. You'll never be what is in your heart. You'll be nothing more than the beta to his alpha.
The snap rang in Daystallion's ears, not unlike the sharp report of a gun. She didn't know if it was in her head or if it had actually happened. She didn't care.
A bright golden light began to glow in the dragon's mouth.
"What do you know?" she screeched, blindly clawing at the woman with the talons on her wings. "Who are you to tell me what I am and what I will be? Nothing. Nothing! A blaspheming heretic, a heathen! I am blessed by the goddesses, Princess Midna: nothing shall stand in my way!"
The light glowed brighter, stronger. She stopped clawing at the woman, but her arms waved about as she spoke.
"You cannot be so blind as to believe that Nightmare is the right man to lead our race! He is pompous, self-centered, arrogant, insensitive, uncaring, and a fool. By joining forces with such a man, you have sealed your fate." Her voice had lost its screeching tones, but she still spoke with passion, with anger, with hatred. Her catlike eyes were narrowed, her upper lip pulled into a sneer, her enormous wings beating at the sky quickly, desperately.
Deep inside, Daystallion knew that Midna was right. She was second-best. She would always be second-best. No matter how hard she fought or how devoutly she prayed or how much she trained, she would never rise up. She would never fall down. Beta, indeed. Nightmare was the alpha, the best. Daystallion was second-best. The beta. The foil.
The failure.
If Midna was paying attention, she would see the faintest glimmer of tears in the dragoness' eyes before the glow in her mouth became too bright to see any of her face.
She gave a wordless roar and the light burst forth, aimed straight for the Twilight Sovereign's chest.

This fire and the desire Shots ringing out on a holy parasite There she goes, Midna confirmed with a sadistically satisfying smile graced upon her lips. Daystallion lost her control, and began swinging wildly (and utmost ridiculously predictable) at the princess. Just watching the girl break down brought a fraction of pity; just a fraction~ It didn't take her long to dismiss it concluding that she didn't not deserve pity when she started this in the first place. The princess could not dodge every single one of her swipes, which happened to snatch and tear at her robes, but she did the best she could to be as aerodynamic as she possibly could.
The world already thinks much the same as you do, she thought, You're just the first to actually come out and say it to my face. Congrats, Daystallion~
Midna's eyes narrowed as soon as she stopped her frenzied assaults. The light glowing from the jaws of the dragoness caught her off guard. She cursed silently not realizing that with such a title, she was bound to have some sorts of holy-themed attacks. Just as Nightmare breathed fire when he attacked, Daystallion had the power to blow out light.
Her lone tear didn't go unnoticed, and it only assured the princess that her words went underneath Day's scales. No, deeper than her scales, underneath the skin, and shook her bones. Yet it didn't stop the beam of light shining down on Midna.
"GYAAAAAAAAAAH!!" The Sovereign let out a bloodcurdling scream. The dragon's light, dragonlight, burned like the hottest flames. It left no traces behind of any burn scars, yet the affliction was excruciating. The Twilight Princess began descending at rapid speeds towards the ground no longer being able to hold herself up from that attack. Her feet crashed onto the blacken earth as her breath became shallow, and short. Fading carmine eyes glared at the dragoness~
"Those souls... who suffer their righteousness," she declared, "They will know their eternal inheritance."
Defeated, and defused of any energy left within her, Midna collapsed upon the earth. Her lids lowered softly, closing her eyes, as her conscious blackened into the mental space.
She was out for the count.

The sound of Midna's scream was sweet. Too sweet, perhaps, to be considered healthy. But Daystallion didn't care. She didn't care about anything but beating Nightmare now. She had to prove that she was good. Even if she wasn't great, even if she wasn't the best, even if this plan of hers got her killed. No matter what happened, she would be good.
Midna's words had crawled under her skin and settled deep into her bones, and Day couldn't get them out. Parasites, those words were. Maybe now, if she beat Nightmare, they would leave. It wasn't just a matter of right and wrong anymore... if it had been to begin with. Now it was pride and the desperation to prove that she was more than second-best.
The dragon lowered herself to the ground and shifted to her human form, picked up Excalibur, and sheathed it. Her hands trembling, it took her a few tries to pull the ribbon out from her hair, her clumsy fingers eventually just ripping the cloth out, causing her blond locks to tumble about her shoulders. None too gently, she took the clip that held the unconscious princess' hair in front, and put both items on top of the remains of the stone pillar. The pillar had crumbled rather conveniently into a neat pile that looked rather like a mountain, a perfect resting place for the ribbon and clip.
A mountain. Perfect. Death Mountain had recently erupted; no one would be at the top. Daystallion and Nightmare could conduct their business without being interrupted... hopefully. And hopefully the Emperor wasn't so stupid that he wouldn't know a message when he saw one. Day's signature ribbon and Midna's clip on top of a crumbled mountain - Day and Midna were on Death Mountain. Simple, easy.
The Vanguard took a moment to glare at the princess' unconscious form, oblivious of the stray tears that trickled down her cheeks. The Twili was wrong. She had to be, even if Day knew that she was right. She could rise up. She could be what was in her heart.
Daystallion shifted again to her dragon form, picked up Princess Midna, and took off, using all her speed to fly to the top of Death Mountain.
