FINN RIDER
everyday superhero
RACE,Minish - Bear
GENDER,Male
BATTLE ROLE,Tank/Melee DPS
BATTLE STYLE,Casual/LS
AGE,Twenty-six
ALLIANCE,Lawful... well, he considers himself to be Lawful Good, but that's rather debatable. So just lawful, kthanxbai.
PERSONALITY,Finn's your average Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass. It's a good way to sum him up, really; he's a bit of a bumbler and he's definitely not the brightest crayon in the box, but his intentions are basically good and he can do some pretty neat stuff when the situation really demands it. He's overly fond of nature, the color green, camouflage, and his survival knife. Finn's really a kind and gentle soul... most of the time.
Finn has a quiet kind of cheer and confidence surrounding him, even when he screws up big-time... which he does a lot. As he likes to say, he can do a lot of things, he's just not good at a lot of things. Finn's a basically good guy; whenever he sees someone in trouble, he absolutely has to rush in and save the day. Unfortunately, he's positively awful at saving the day, and often injures everyone within a 100-foot radius in his efforts... including himself. The guy's had more broken bones than he cares to count.
He's a strong guy, physically; I mean, he's a bear. Of course he's strong. Sadly for him, that only applies to his physical body; if he has to deal with anything even slightly emotionally demanding, he runs in the opposite direction. Or he breaks down and cries. Or he runs, then he cries, or he does both at the same time. Finn just can't deal with it. As such, he's rather shy and doesn't talk much, and he has zero experience when it comes to matters of the heart. He's even more awkward than usual around pretty women, and it takes a while for him to warm up and start talking. He prefers to communicate via nods, head shakes, and hand gestures whenever possible, but he'll open his mouth if necessary.
Unfortunately, Finn is prone to violent blackouts. He's not much of a drinker, and the triggers change almost daily; what causes him to fly off the handle one day might fly right over his head the next. His blackouts are wild and unpredictable, and he never remembers anything he does. He becomes a sadistic beast when he flips his lid, and he's quite a dangerous individual. As of yet, the only thing that can calm him down is time. His triggers seem to situate around jackasses... and, well, jackasses.
Interestingly enough, a woman has never been the cause of his blackouts. Not directly, anyway.
APPEARANCE,
Finn's an attractive enough guy, if you can get past all the green. His hair's green and chopped short and messy, and his eyes are an odd maroon color. Given his original albino coloring, this isn't overly strange, but it certainly tends to throw people off. He's a big guy, too; he stands at about 6'5" and is packed full of lean, hard muscle. Also not surprising, considering that he's a bear. In his human form, he has adorable little rounded bear ears (also green, in case you were wondering), but they're generally hidden by his hair. He also has a green nub of a bear tail.
Finn tends to dress in camouflage and dark olive drab left over from his stint in the military. Underneath the typical uniform he wears a skintight back shirt, and he also is never seen without his dog tags, leather gloves, and cover. When he does change out of the actual uniform (he has many, many sets, so this hardly ever occurs), he'll usually opt for a camouflage jacket, maroon shirt, and loose black pants. He always wears the same shin-covering steel-toed boots.
When Finn shifts, he changes into an 8'2" green bear. Yes, green. He's big and muscular and quite adorable, if he's not aiming to bite your head off.
WEAPONS,Survival Knife. A fixed-blade survival knife that Finn always carries around. It has blood wells for easy stabbing, and partially serrated edges for whatever he needs to chop up. Single-edged. He keeps it in a leather sheath on his hip.
Steel-Toed Boots. Boots, obviously. Made specially for kicking your ass.
ITEMS,MAGICAL ITEM: Dog Tags. Finn's dog tags have a spell embedded in them that passively increases his physical strength by three. In LS mode, this translates into an extra half-level of physical damage. As he retains the dog tags while in his bear form, this goes for his animal form as well.
He's a smoker, so he also carries around a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He also has a small notebook of pressed flowers that he keeps in his back pocket, which he's always adding to.
ABILITIES,Everyday Superheroic Bear. Finn's a bear. That's all there is to this ability. His bear nature makes him rather strong in both hitting and taking hits, although this ability deals with the latter. Simply put, he has a passive x2 resistance to physical attacks in Casual Style, and all physical damage dealt is decreased by a level in LS Style. However, if he is hit by a magical attack, it deals an extra-half level of damage on top of the regular damage it does. For attacks that are both physical and magical, they deal regular damage.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Shapeshifting
The Minish, more so than any other race, have control over their own body and its place in the world. Each Minish has one animal form; this animal form affects their normal appearance, which is that of a human with some animal influence (the degree varies, and is up to you; you can have your cat-Minish have cat-ears and a tail or be covered in fur, whatever you like). However, the Minish also have the ability to transform, in two different ways:
Animal Form: Each Minish can fully take on the animal form that they are connected to. If that animal is large (think something like a bear or a lion), then their physical attacks do more damage (an extra level). The Minish cannot activate any magical weapons or items (unless those weapons/items specifically allow it). The animal form lasts for three posts and then has a cooldown of three more posts. Finn's animal form: ROAR GREEN BEAR
Invisibility: The Minish temporarily turns invisible, meaning the enemy cannot target them in the next turn; if they find themselves in an area-of-effect attack, they are still vulnerable, however. Meanwhile, a physical attack used while Invisible deals more damage than usual (an extra level of damage). Invisibility only lasts for one turn, and has a cooldown of five posts.
HISTORY,
Finn Rider was born an albino. White skin, white hair, bright red eyes. He was a sickly child, as he had practically no immune system, and even the faintest of sunlight would harm his sensitive skin. Because of this, the bear minish didn't have any friends when he was young; how could he, when he could never venture outside? He was a lonely and sad little boy, until the sorcerer came along.
At least, Finn thought he was a sorcerer. His nine-year-old brain could only process the flamboyant way of dressing and the rather hilariously bushy beard, coupled with the man's apparent penchant for magic. So a sorcerer, he was. There were several weeks when all the man did was converse with Finn's parents, and after what seemed like forever, the sorcerer cast a spell on the boy.
His weakness was cured... sort of. His hair turned a bright green color, and although his skin darkened by a few shades, he still burned very easily. But his immune system strengthened, and at first, it seemed there were no negative changes in his personality. All was well for about six years.
When Finn was fifteen, his blackouts began occurring. It mostly happened with the bullies at school; he was picked on a bit because of his awkward nature, and every time it happened, Finn sent the teasing children to the hospital with numerous bruises and broken bones. He himself broke his own bones in the process, and he often injured himself more than he did other people, but he never remembered a thing. As far as he was concerned, he was just prone to spontaneous bruising and bone breaks, and he thought nothing of it. He was fifteen, after. He was invincible.
Finn's parents kept hoping that the blackouts were just a phase, that he would grow out of it. But after two years of mounting hospital bills for their child and his victims, they had to accept that this was simply how they boy was. So they sent him to join the military, with a faint hope that the instructors would whip the violence out of him.
That didn't work out so well. If anything, his blackouts only became more frequent and more violent with every occurrence. After about five years of whipping the guy into shape, Finn was discharged from the military.
Twenty-two years old and utterly confused about what to do with his life, Finn began doing odd jobs wherever he was; he traveled a lot, and although he didn't do many things very well, he was good for manual labor if nothing else. For four years now, he's just been wandering, flipping his lid, and just existing.
EXTRAS,
-- He's overly fond of nature, especially flowers. He could spend all day searching for the things.
-- He's fond of calming things in general, actually. Peaceful surroundings and the like.
-- His blackouts are a side effect of the spell cast on him as a child. It's highly unlikely that it's reversible.
-- His green hair and fur are also a side effect. So yes, he's a giant green bear.
