The day had been a long and hard one, made worse by the intense heat of the late afternoon. Vaan had, against his wishes, sacrificed his day off to help a few struggling students learn how to better control their magical capabilities. He was a teacher, and though he was lazier than anything in the world, he was great at what he did. He enjoyed his work, though it was unpaid and unofficial, since he was too young to actually be teaching anything, but it was rewarding in more ways than one. He did love children very much, and enjoyed working with them.
Unfortunately, as much as Vaan wanted to see expertise in them, as much as he wanted to see incredible potential, he didn't have a student that he could see great things in. Perhaps, he thought, it was pessimistic, but he also considered that it could very well be reality. And he was a realist at heart, though he did long for the hope to place in someone some day to carry on what he himself had learned. There were many things Vaan had learned to do over the course of his travels, and he found no greater pleasure than to pass these things on...
Walking towards the bank of the river, Vaan looked out at the rushing water. It was cooler than the outside temperature, and Vaan almost wanted to swim, but decided against it. Instead, he sat down by the bank and put his feet in the water. He leaned back on his elbows and closed his eyes, tilting his head up towards the sun. Today had been a long day, and he was ready for a break.

Einar walked down the seemingly abandoned walkway along the river. He looked very out of place in the brightly shining and radiant natural beauty of the forest and glittering water. He appeared to have a fairly thick coat on as well - black at that. However, if he was hot, he didn't show it. The eyes on his face remained unleavened and cutting. Speaking of his eyes, his left one was particularly out of place here-
A burning, illuminated, inverted-colored red and black eye scanned the area. His right saw normal colors, but his left dawned the horizon in red - everything was in red. When something white came up, it meant trouble. So far.. so good. He was just starting to ease up when he heard the unmistakable splashing of water. His body jolted, and he discreetly dashed behind a tree.
Stopping to catch his breath, Ein nervously peeked from behind. It was a man.. a pretty cool-looking one at that.. But this was no time to get fooled. This person could be dangerous.. he had to leave, and fast.
To put it simply, he tripped. And let out a loud yelp when he fell, at that.

Vaan's train of thought wrecked into a brick wall, halted immediately by the yelp of a younger-sounding voice. Slowly and lazily Vaan turned his head behind him to see what the commotion was, and noticed that a young boy seemed to have fallen about from behind a tree. Or perhaps from in the tree. Either way, Vaan knew that the boy was startled. Was he scared of him? Vaan eyed him suspiciously, then yawned, still facing him, and turned back towards the water.
The boy was interesting looking, and peaked Vaan's interest, though he was nearly certain the boy would flee. When he didn't, Vaan turned his head back to him. He seemed about the same age as the kids he'd taught earlier today, but Vaan didn't recognize his face. Perhaps he knew, or maybe lost. Deciding it would be best to find out, Vaan spoke out to him. "Are you lost?"
Then, he realized a better question might be in order. After all, Vaan had no intention of scaring this boy away, especially considering the fact that he was very interested. "Er, are you afraid of me?" Vaan turned around, pulling his feet out of the water, and faced him, yawning a large yawn that most definitely implied sleepiness.
