Food. Food. How long had it been since he'd last eaten? A century? A thousand years? He honestly didn't know. Apparently the current queen/princess was named Zelda. That did not help much. They were all named Zelda.
Vaati had chanced upon a restaurant in Castle Town - that, at least, remained eternal - named The Laughing Man. Its name really didn't do it justice, nor did calling it a mere 'restaurant.' It was rich, it was excessive, and lesser food was somehow improved just by being near it. He fit right in.
The pile of plates and empty cups around him heightened steadily as Vaati ate everything they could conceivably serve him. It was heavenly - with enough rupees on the table the chefs could be made to work in tandem to serve the kind of meals that would make a gourmet happily murder everyone around him for a second serving. And rupees weren't a problem. They just appeared, as if by magic.
And yet the evening was turning out to be a vast disappointment. The staff were his best friends, the patrons too, when he announced he would pay for everything, and for one night the Laughing Man would become a house of gluttony and sin.
But they were not happy. And to Vaati's steadily awakening senses the air tasted vile and bitter. He considered burning the whole thing down. Later.

Nightmare had for the most part, stayed out of it. Had he taken advantage of Vaati's generous offer? Oh hell yes, but he didn't let Vaati know he was there. Instead, he had hidden himself in the corner of a room, and watched with a rather stunned expression as shorty just... shoveled everything in. Even as a dragon, Nightmare didn't really have that large of an appetite. Though he was having a good time, but things seemed tense. It really seemed like something would push someone over the edge at any moment. And he figured, he was having a good time, why not make it better for him and push Vaati over the edge?
Spying the hat the jackass had stolen back at the shrine, he decided he would make his move. Besides, he needed to get a little payback for Vaati's bullshit back at the shrine.
He rose from his seat and slowly started to stroll on over to Vaati's position from behind, hoping to take him by surprise. As he closed in, he muttered one calm, relaxed sentence out loud, as if attempting to poke a little fun at Vaati. "It's improper to wear a hat in a building you know~" He remarked beforehand, his hand nonchalantly reaching for the cap that sat on top of the Wind Mage's head. He wondered, of all the things to come back for, why take the hat? It was something that could be so easily stolen. Hell, if Nightmare succeeded and managed to grab the hat, then wouldn't it mean that Vaati had more or less just been dethroned?
"Thanks for paying for my meal though~"
