Baal picked up and scrubbed another dish once Kay turned and walked away. It would be a lie to say he didn't watch her walk; he was allowed to admire as well, he just had the tact to be subtle about it and not say anything. One of the perks of being a bartender was you got quite a bit of traffic to watch over, and an excuse to watch them. That was how the time passed there behind the bar, watching people and guessing casually at their stories.
Of course once in a while someone more interesting, such as his new employee, arrived and helped kill a few hours of the shift. But with her retiring to her room there was nothing more to focus on there, so Baal turned his attention back to tending the bar. He had been maintaining his responsibilities whilst dealing with Kay, but a lot of people have further dealings with the bartender when he wasn't busy with others. With Kay gone, many orders were sent back to Lucky, and many drinks were mixed up with practiced expertise.
"Hey Baal, where'd that fine piece go off to?" asked one of the regulars, who motioned to the stage while grinning like an idiot. It was folk like him that made Baal wonder if running a tavern was worthwhile, all things considered. Sometimes he wished they attracted a more academic type, but then one couldn't be picky about where the rupees came from, as long as the rupees came in.
"That 'fine piece' is our new bard, so try treating her with a little more respect. Speaking of missing things, you're a week late on your tab," Baal shot back, and so dealings went in the Fairy's Fountain, not just that night but most nights.
