Kaythenia is generally good natured, open minded although no one really seems to know who she really is, talented at keeping even her companions at arms length. She is perhaps slightly volatile when it comes to her temper when pushed and prefers the company of only a few and becomes introverted if overwhelmed by unfamiliar faces. Although considered by many to be a highly talented Mage... Kaythenia has serious issues controlling and limiting her power, and the results are usually explosive. Generally her talents are more of a help than a hindrance to anyone. Kaythenia keeps her past to herself and will go out of her way to avoid discussing it at all costs...she's more likely turn the question on you. She isn’t an idiot by any stretch of the word and has a very sharp, quick mind, often classed by many as having ‘an old head on young shoulders’ Despite all her faults expect much from her. But behind Kaythenia’s smile she hides a dark secret and the only thing she has yet to face is herself.
APPEARANCE,
Kaythenia stands at an average height of 5'5 and is physically built like a dancer with whipcord muscles from hard travel and self defence, weighing in at about 120lbs. Her eyes are almond shaped and are a dark, sapphire blue surrounded by sooty lashes. Her features are classical with high sculpted cheekbones and porcelain skin with rosebud lips. Her hair is fiery red and worn to the nape of the neck in choppy layers, framing her face and keeping it out of her eyes whilst she travels for the obvious practical reasons.
Her clothes consist of a crimson over-shirt, the neckline sitting just over the bust line,swallow-tailed sleeves that split from wrist to elbow for freedom of movement and drawn in at the waist by an underbust corset in soft, brown leather, the back of her crimson shirt is long in a similar style to a half skirt which ends at calf length. Mid-thigh shorts in dark brown soft leather with a belt strapped around her hips. Kaythenia also wears a pair of brown leather fingerless gloves, partially to protect her hands while handling weapons and fighting and for other more personal reasons…Last of all her boots are made of sturdy leather and without a heel for ease of travel which lace up at the front.
WEAPONS,
Twin Daggers:
A pair of well balanced daggers fashioned in steel with worn black leather wrapped around their hilts, these have obviously been well used by Kaythenia in the time she has owned them. The steel is kept in good condition but nicks and scuffs from past fights are easily visible to the eye. Kaythenia is a fair opponent when armed with these and generally resorts to agility and accuracy rather than brute strength that she lacks.
ITEMS,
Two empty bottles, small sewing kit, bandages, herbal medicines.
ABILITIES,
Flame Blast: Focuses her magical energy into a cone of flame which erupts from her hands or two smaller blast from either hand. enough to deal decent damage against a foe. Her control over this ability is on the whole very good so this is the spell she most often turns to in a moment of crisis. Once used in turn based battle it requires two turns cool down time before it can be used again.
Inferno: This is one of her more powerful spells but also harder to keep under her control, the Inferno creates a swirling cyclone of flame which can destroy more than it saves if left unchecked. This spell is a work in progress for now and generally only used in an emergency. This particular spell is somewhat dangerous if she has issues keeping it under control and leaves her feeling tired after using it.When used in turn based battle it requires 4 turns cool down time before it can be used again.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Magical Devastator:
All magical damage dealt by the Hylian is increased (by a half level), and they gain access to a Magic Attack, which mimics the regular attack save that it deals magical damage (i.e. deal a half-level of magical damage, consumes one action slot, no cooldown).
HISTORY,
Kaythenia was born in the Faron province, her Mother lived apart from other settlements, preffering the peace and quiet that being near the forest afforded her and she had no known Father to speak of. Her life in those days was one of peace, where her Mother educated her in Lore, Writing and Reading the Hylian Language and Music, also lending support she could to assisting in training her daughter's growing talent for the Magic Arts. But like all things it did not last, the people of Ordon grew suspicious that 'The Witch' as the village children called her was training her daughter in the Dark Arts. Despite this not being the case, the rumour circulated and grew until it spun out of control. The days of peace had come to an end.
News of a child with latent magical talent has travelled by this time and the news reached the ears of those who might use her for their own means. The house was set upon by a man named Marcus, his slew Kaythenia's Mother and set their peaceful home ablaze. Dragging the young child off, the last Kaythenia saw of her home was the smoke rising over the horizon. From there a new chapter in her life started, Marcus took her to his home where he commenced training her until she was ready for what he really had in mind for her. Kaythenia was a talented student despite her lack of control over her powers and ever growing fear of Marcus. This man had murdered her Mother and taken her away from everything familiar but the same man also was 'caring' for her. He attempted to train her in the basics of combat, both physical and magical although it was her powers he was really interested in. She was seventeen when he finally deemed her ready for what he had in mind for her, draining her of her raw energy.
He warded a room of the house and turned it into a Seomar, a power seal so that Kaythenia could not escape. Marcus saw it as her way of paying him back for everything he had done, telling her at last why he killed her Mother and but kept her alive. Because of her bloodline being linked to ancient sorcercess whose powers passed down to her descendents...Kaythenia knew what was happening but had no way to stop it...until the ritual to strip her of her powers began. Something inside her snapped and she fought back with every scrap of energy she possesed, it broke the Seomar and without a thought, slaughtered Marcus. When the energy died down, Kaythenia found herself slowly coming around, her hands and clothing coated in Marcus's blood. Out of fear of the consequences she grabbed what few possessions she had and ran for her life, part of the ritual which almost killed her still burned into her the skin on the backs of her hands. Covered by her ever present gloves, now she makes her living as a travelling Bard and storyteller, spending much of her life on the move.
EXTRAS,
Kaythenia's control over her powers can be somewhat inconsistent, some spells cause more damage than they save. She has before been questioned about her problem and to give other players an idea I'm inserting an excerpt from a previous roleplay she was part of.
"I percieved magic users as being more...in control, are you a novice?"
Kaythenia had the grace to look embaressed at her mishap, her cheeks flushed and she glanced evasively off to the side, fiddling with her supple leather of her gloves. There was a few moments of tense silence before the Magess realised she was going to need to explain her lack of control. Not something she relished talking about but in this situation it was apparently a necessity. Joy.
"Well, no. Not exactly. You see there's very few remaining practioners to learn the arts from and other resources are scarce. You might think after the years of practise I've had that I might have more control over my powers but it isn't the case sadly. To make it worse I can be somewhat...accident prone."
As she glanced over and noted the expressions on the face of her companions, she held both hands up as if to say 'Let me finish'.
"It's not that I couldn't deal with an enemy if confronted, it's just I could end up botching the casting in some way and blowing up several things in the process. So if I ever shout 'Duck' it's generally an intelligent plan to listen to me."
