Rennal stumbled down the hills to Lake Hylia, his dusty cape flowing behind him, sweating and thirsty. He bent down next to the Lake and drank immediately, then spalshed his face with the water, and shook out his hair. He sighed in relief. "Geez. This heat wave can really get to you," he said, forgetting for a moment that Owen was actually looking for him.
Then it dawned on him. In order to sway Owen from his identity, Rennal couldn't exist. He had to abandon his identity, because as long as he held onto it he would act suspicious. He had to become Iadar. And then his creative training kicked in, from Calemar: If you want to fool someone, fool your allies before your enemy. Forget yourself, forget you as Rennal exists, and become your character. Rennal does not exist. You are...
Iadar.
He stood up, and sighed. That's an idea you had to get used to, though. You couldn't just abandon who you were in favour of someone else... could you? Sure you can, my boy. All it takes is to learn your character well enough, and then become him.
He had an extensive knowledge of history and as such knew many characters from history other people could only dream about, Iadar had been dedicated to his work, but he'd failed. He'd never gotten his name out. Someone else took the credit.
He turned around to face Owen. He'd told him before that he knew no Rennal, but he'd seen the postings around. And then they went into an extensive conversation of dodging and weaving on Rennal's end, and questioning and investiaging on Owen's end.
He just couldn't keep up the front anymore, so Rennal no longer existed.
"There's where the doc is," Rennal said, pointing at a large lighthouse not too far from where they were. "He doesn't live here, but he promised to meet me her to discuss a few things."
