One thing I'm not entirely following about this whole "item upgrade" system that they're saying is new to the series... hasn't Zelda ALWAYS upgraded items?
Bombs -> Super Bombs
Boomerang -> Magic Boomerang
Hookshot -> Longshot
Deku Shield -> Hylian Shield -> Mirror Shield
Kokiri Sword -> Razor Sword -> Gilded Sword
The only thing "new" about it seems to be that you need to go resource-gathering instead of just finding or earning them through exploring dungeons and completing quests
